Water Hygiene Remedial Engineer

UCLH Estate | CBRE Global Workplace Solutions

Are you an experienced plumbing and water hygiene professional looking to make a real difference in a critical healthcare environment? CBRE is seeking a Water Hygiene Remedial Engineer to join our dedicated team supporting the University College London Hospitals (UCLH) Estate. In this role, you'll be responsible for delivering specialist remedial works that help maintain safe, compliant water systems and protect patients, staff, and visitors.

About the Role

As a Water Hygiene Remedial Engineer, you will play a crucial role in identifying and resolving water safety risks across a large healthcare estate. Working within a highly regulated environment, you'll carry out remedial plumbing and engineering works to mitigate risks associated with Legionella and Pseudomonas, ensuring compliance with HTM 04-01 standards and supporting the overall water safety strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute remedial works to address positive Legionella and Pseudomonas findings across the estate.
  • Modify and improve water systems, including removing dead legs, replacing pipework, and installing or replacing thermostatic mixing valves (TMVs).
  • Carry out thermal disinfection activities and support chemical disinfection and chlorination processes.
  • Diagnose water system issues and implement long-term engineering solutions to prevent future contamination risks.
  • Complete technical repairs and improvements to water distribution systems.
  • Maintain detailed records, photographic evidence, and compliance documentation for all remedial works completed.
  • Work in line with health & safety procedures, COSHH requirements, risk assessments, and permit-to-work systems.
  • Collaborate with Water Hygiene Technicians and Supervisors to improve system performance and water safety compliance.

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements

  • NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Plumbing, or equivalent trade qualification.
  • Proven experience in plumbing and water system engineering, ideally within healthcare environments.
  • Strong knowledge of HTM 04-01 and water hygiene best practices.
  • Experience carrying out remedial works relating to Legionella and Pseudomonas control.
  • Ability to diagnose root causes of contamination and implement effective engineering solutions.
  • Understanding of infection control requirements and working within sensitive healthcare settings.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent record-keeping and compliance awareness.

Desirable

  • Experience with chemical handling and water treatment systems.
  • Previous experience working on hospital estates or critical environments.
