Water Technician in City of Westminster

Role Purpose

Role Purpose: The Water Technician is responsible for delivering planned water hygiene maintenance activities and supporting the safe operation of water systems across the Trust estate in accordance with: . Trust Water Safety Plan . HTM 04-01 . ACOP L8 . HSG274 . Local procedures and safe systems of work The role focuses on the consistent delivery of routine compliance tasks, accurate record keeping, identification of defects and risks, and completion of low-complexity remedial activities. Working under the direction of the Water Services Supervisor and Authorised Person (Water), the postholder will follow approved procedures to ensure all activities are completed safely, accurately, and within required timescales. The Water Technician will undertake training and competency assessments to achieve and maintain appointment as a Competent Person (Water) and will play an important role in supporting patient safety through effective compliance management and water hygiene practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Water Hygiene Compliance & Maintenance
• Carry out planned water hygiene maintenance activities in line with approved schedules and procedures.
• Complete routine inspections, monitoring, and testing activities, including: Water temperature monitoring
• Outlet flushing
• Shower inspections and maintenance
• Water tank inspections
• Sentinel outlet checks
• Water quality monitoring activities as directed
• Ensure all compliance activities are completed within required frequencies and statutory timescales.
• Maintain compliance with Trust policies, procedures, and industry regulations.
• Inspection, Reporting & Remedial Works
• Identify and report defects, abnormalities, risks, or compliance concerns identified during inspections.
• Undertake low-complexity remedial works within the limits of training and competency.
• Complete minor repairs and corrective actions associated with water hygiene compliance.
• Support higher-level remedial activities carried out by senior team members or specialist contractors.
• Verify completion of remedial works and ensure all associated records are updated accurately.
• Escalate issues that fall outside personal competency or authority levels.

Technical & Compliance

• Good understanding of safe working practices.
• Ability to follow written procedures, work instructions, SOPs, and RAMS.
• Awareness of water hygiene compliance requirements and regulatory standards.
• Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality and compliance.

Administrative & IT Skills

• Good record-keeping and administrative capabilities.
• Ability to accurately complete compliance documentation.
• Competent in the use of:

Essential

• GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Mathematics.
• Relevant trade, maintenance, engineering, or technical qualification, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience carrying out planned maintenance, inspections, or compliance activities within:
• Healthcare environments
• Facilities Management (FM)
• Building Services
• Engineering maintenance operations
• Willingness to undertake training and competency assessments to become an appointed Competent Person (Water).
