Role Overview
Our Client is a global financial services firm providing a wide range of investment banking, securities, wealth management, and investment management services. This position is within the firm's Technology business unit, specifically the Enterprise Data Centre (EDC) team, which manages the firm's global data centre portfolio and secures IT hardware assets throughout their lifecycle.
Job Purpose
You will join a team responsible for producing global documentation that supports the daily efforts of our engineering and EDC teams, ensuring that our work practices comply with the firm's policies and procedures. The team produces:
- Processes and Procedures
- Quick Reference Guides
- Workflows
- Training Materials
- Standards
While based at our Canary Wharf office, this position supports flexible working, with the expectation of remote work as the primary model, attending site when necessary. We are searching for an experienced technical documentation specialist to join our team and contribute to maintaining our high standards. As a candidate, you possess professional experience in a technical field, such as computer science or engineering. You have a proven ability to evaluate complex information and a commitment to helping others understand complicated topics.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive documentation that meets organizational standards.
- Acquire a thorough understanding of the firm's policies and procedures to ensure documentation is compliant.
- Translate complex information into clear, polished, and engaging content.
- Write accessible content that meets the needs of the target audience.
- Develop and maintain detailed documentation databases.
- Evaluate current content and develop innovative approaches for improvement.
- Deliver effective business communication through advice, review, guidance, and direct contribution to management and team meetings, briefings, consultation forums, correspondence, reporting, and other publications.
- Support the sales process through solutions development, participation in presentations and consultation meetings, hosting visits, and supporting mobilization as required on new contracts.
- Foster a learning environment, providing training and development planning. Ensure training needs are met, that team members are fully competent to undertake their roles, and are supported in reaching their potential.
- Research, outline, write, and edit new and existing content, working closely with various groups to understand their requirements.
- Gather information from subject matter experts to develop, organize, and write standards documentation, procedure manuals, process documentation, and other materials.
- Collaborate with others to identify documentation repositories and determine optimal solutions for centralized storage.
- Create and maintain document templates.
- Develop content with a consistent and cohesive voice across all documentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field.
- Technical Authoring qualification; an MA in technical writing is a plus.
- Minimum 5 years of industry experience as a technical documentation professional.
Experience (Essential)
- Proven ability to quickly learn and understand complex topics.
- Experience writing documentation and procedural materials for multiple audiences.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.
- Experience working with engineering teams to improve user experience.
- Ability to create visuals and diagrams to support content.
- Competent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Competent knowledge of Microsoft Visio.
- Experience with Jive pages management is useful but not essential.
- Experience with Microsoft SharePoint pages management is useful but not essential.
Circumstances
Working Hours
- Monday - Friday, 40 hours/week.
- Note: As this is a global position, there is a requirement to work across time zones, which may occasionally require early starts or late finishes.
Working from Home
For this position, you can work from home unless required to attend your office location. If you work from home, you must ensure that you have a suitable environment that enables you to work safely, comfortably, and efficiently with minimal disturbance. You will need a reliable internet connection to support remote working (using either a desktop or laptop computer which you are expected to supply). An IP telephone will be provided, which requires a power supply and a wired connection to your broadband router.
