Purpose of the Job

  • To lead the establishment development, implementation and maintenance of technical standards, system updates, reviews and service solutions across the EMEA portfolio.
  • To support the performance and profitable growth of CBRE GWS EMEA Data Centre Solutions business.
  • To ensure the effective and efficient delivery of technical operations across the EMEA portfolio.
  • To ensure that the technical operations represent best practice in the data centre sector.
  • To develop future engineering strategic direction on the portfolio and ensure delivery of new initiatives.
  • To support the account teams for technical engineering matters, including technical compliance and training.
  • To act as a senior member of the management team, representing CBRE.
  • To act as a primary interface with clients (and particularly client technical staff) on technical matters.
  • Understand and drive forward the Critical Environment & Risk Management (CERM) model and standards across the contract portfolio with the primary goal being to ensure the efficient and safe operation and maintenance of engineering systems to achieve 100% plant availability and uptime.
  • Work closely with key leaders around the DCS business, including QHSE and Reliability.
  • To positively contribute towards improving our technical capability, standards and operational delivery on the contract level and have a vital role to drive the vision and route towards consistent engineering excellence.

Key Tasks

  • Act as technical authority providing advice and assistance to maintenance teams as required.
  • Facilitate the implementation, adoption and embedding of the Critical Environment Risk Management (CERM) model processes into the day to day operation.
  • Ensure that all maintenance is carried out in line with Client/CBRE Requirements.
  • Deliver Technical Needs Assessments and produce gap analysis reports to develop training plans.
  • Oversee and ensure the business is supported in the management and delivery of Essential Maintenance Periods as specified in contract scope.
  • Create a network of Technical champions and experts within the business to support the technical requirements, including succession planning, as the business scales and grows.
  • Assist in the development of timely, meaningful reports in relation to productivity, equipment reliability/life expectancy, failure trends, improvements, recommendations.
  • Support Root Cause Analysis investigations and reporting of lessons learnt.
  • Projects/Operations interface.
  • Ensure the right levels of support for the development and implementation of EOP’s & SOP’s.
  • Ensure sites have effective Change Control processes and documentation in place.
  • Work with the Reliability team to conduct regular emergency response simulations and ensure action plans are in place for all possible serious incidents and regularly undertaken in the business.
  • Ensure quality and consistency in the business management.
  • Management of business critical assets with ownership of CMMS implementation and management.
  • Capacity Management Reporting.
  • Ensure Critical Spares Management, approved personnel trained to deliver on site, work permit/authorisation to work and best practices, Critical Contractor supply chain management.

Skills / Experience / Background

  • Experience as Technical Manager/Director level within a technical critical data centre environments.
  • Knowledge of hard services M&E infrastructure, data rooms, critical systems and complex HV and LV systems.
  • High level of competency and understanding of Critical Environment electrical infrastructures.
  • Comprehensive understanding of HVAC systems and plant operations within Building Services and Critical Environments.
  • Up to date technical knowledge of ACOP’s, fire and environmental control measures, building control requirements, High Voltage, 18th Edition, Refrigeration and the Health and Safety at Work Act.
  • Minimum HNC qualification in appropriate engineering discipline.
  • Degree level qualification in mechanical and electrical engineering is highly desirable.
  • Chartered Engineer status would be highly desirable but is not essential.
  • Authorising Engineer for Permit-to-Work systems.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a related environment (Data Centres or Critical Engineering Environments).
  • Have a positive and proactive approach to work and able to work by own initiative and as part of a large account team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including training and presenting.
  • Assertive and dynamic attitude towards achieving results.
  • Ability to operate as a respected member of a small management group.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and being respectful of other members’ contributions whilst leading and persuading to achieve results.
  • Ability to lead change programmes to implement best technical practice.
  • Ability to think strategically and put strategy into practice.
  • Contractually astute and able to work within the confines of contractual requirements.
  • PC Literate.
