The QHSE Advisor provides day-to-day Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental support across the BT account, with a strong focus on construction activities, in project delivery and CDM compliance. The role supports both the QHSE Manager and Environmental Manager in the safe execution of minor works, projects, and construction-related activities by providing first-line assurance, advising operational and project teams, and ensuring that construction risks are effectively managed in line with statutory, client and CBRE requirements, escalating issues where specialist expertise or management input is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Core QHSE Support
- Ensure the CBRE safety and environmental recording systems are kept up to date, accurate and reflective of construction project activities.
- Provide first-line QHSE support to operational teams, answering routine queries and escalating complex matters to the QHSE Manager or Environmental Manager as appropriate.
- Support the QHSE Director and QHSE Manager with management reporting, data collation and updates to internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist in incident and environmental event investigations, ensuring timely reporting, evidence gathering and root cause analysis as instructed.
- Environmental Responsibilities
- Support operational teams with day-to-day environmental compliance such as waste management, spill response, pollution prevention measures and local permit requirements.
- Conduct basic environmental checks during site visits (e.g., waste segregation, storage of hazardous materials, contamination risks) and escalate findings to the Environmental Manager.
- Assist the Environmental Manager with environmental audits, inspections and environmental data gathering where required.
- Promote environmental awareness across teams and support the delivery of environmental campaigns, toolbox talks and communication cascades.
- Help ensure ISO 14001-aligned processes are implemented at site level, escalating non-conformances for expert review.
- Audit, Assurance & Compliance
- Support delivery of the site audit programme, including both H&S and environmental elements.
- Record, track and follow up corrective actions from audits, inspections, incidents and environmental events.
- Support quality assurance checks on RAMS, permits, work packs and environmental documentation.
- Projects & CDM Support
- Provide project teams with first-line QHSE and CDM-related support, ensuring documentation is complete and compliant before escalation.
- Work with the Environmental Manager and QHSE Manager to ensure environmental risks are identified in RAMS, Construction Phase Plans, and method statements.
- Participate in project-related inspections, audits and assurance activities, with complex CDM or environmental queries escalated appropriately.
- Operational Communication & Coordination
- Be a point of contact for operational managers, providing timely advice across H&S, environmental and quality queries.
- Liaise closely with site teams and head office, ensuring accurate processing of QHSE-related documentation, records and communications.
- Promote CBRE’s culture, values and RISE behaviours across all operational interactions.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- Essential
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent H&S qualification).
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with staff at all levels.
- Experience supporting audits (H&S and/or environmental).
- Good IT competency including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- A proactive, customer-focused mindset and the ability to work under pressure.
- Desirable
- Experience supporting environmental compliance or holding an environmental awareness qualification (IEMA Foundation or similar).
- NEBOSH Construction.
- Experience using SharePoint and Power BI.
- Familiarity with ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 standards.
- Exposure to facilities, telecoms, utilities or multi-site environments.
