Job Title : Water Hygiene Plumber
Role Purpose: The Water Hygiene Plumber is a specialist role responsible for delivering plumbing activities associated with water hygiene management across a large acute hospital estate. Working as part of a dedicated Water Hygiene Team alongside Authorised Persons (APs), Competent Persons (CPs), Water Hygiene Managers and Estates colleagues, the postholder will undertake remedial and improvement works to support compliance with HTM guidance, Approved Codes of Practice (ACoP L8) and the site's Water Safety Plan.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver planned and reactive water hygiene remedial works across the hospital estate.
- Install, replace and repair taps, basins, showers, pipework and associated fixtures.
- Install, maintain and repair Thermostatic Mixing Valves (TMVs).
- Install and replace isolation valves and other water system control components.
- Investigate water hygiene issues, including tracing pipework and identifying system defects or dead legs.
- Support water system modifications to improve compliance, performance and patient safety.
- Carry out fault finding and propose innovative engineering solutions to complex water system challenges.
- Complete all work in accordance with HTM 04-01, ACoP L8, HSG274 and the site's Water Safety Plan.
- Maintain accurate records of works completed and provide technical feedback to the Water Hygiene Management Team.
- Liaise effectively with clinical departments, contractors and Estates colleagues to minimise druption to hospital operations.
- Ensure all activities are carried out safely and in accordance with Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Carry out planned water hygiene maintenance activities in accordance with approved schedules and procedures.
Qualifications and Experience
- NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing and Domestic Heating (or equivalent recognised plumbing qualification).
- Proven experience in commercial or industrial plumbing environments .
- Experience carrying out TMV installation, maintenance and testing.

- Previous experience within a healthcare, hospital or critical environment.
- Knowledge of HTM 04-01, ACoP L8 and HSG274 guidance.
- Water Hygiene or Legionella control qualifications/training.
- Experience working within a Water Safety Group framework
