The Electrical Improver role is to support the technical compliance team to ensure the client’s buildings, equipment, and RCDs are tested and inspected in line with the latest guidance and requirements. This includes executing a comprehensive Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) programme across the campus to ensure all handheld, portable, and stationary electrical equipment remains safe for use.
Located at our clients Cambridge Campus, you will carry out your role with minimum guidance, liaising with planning and compliance teams to meet all KPIs and maintain systems in a safe, serviceable condition.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- To work as part of a small testing team undertaking high quality inspection and testing of electrical equipment within laboratory, office, and various other environments.
- To ensure the electrical equipment are compliant with the IET COP 5th Edition and in line with the client’s specific requirements.
- Ensure the 6 monthly RCD functional checks are completed on time in line with BS7671.
- Repairs that can be completed whilst isolations are in place are completed to prevent the need to disrupt science for remedial repairs.
- Supporting site operation from electrical perspective.
- Ensure all health and safety policies and procedures set out by the client and employer are implemented.
- Attend weekly toolbox talks and complete all training set out by the client and employer.
- Use client compliance software to directly report on the condition of the electrical systems.
- Liaise with the client, planning team, compliance team and all other shareholders.
- To actively engage with personal development.
Accountabilities
- Reporting to the Senior Electrical Testing Technician.
- Responsibility to ensure delivery of services, ensuring all assigned equipment is tested within required timeframes.
- Responsible for documentation accurate upkeep of digital test records and equipment logbooks.
Person Specification
Training / Qualifications
- Essential: City & Guilds 2365 level 2 or equivalent.
- Desirable: City & Guilds 2365 level 2 + 3 or equivalent, BS7671 wiring regulations latest amendment, City & Guilds 2377 In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment, or equivalent e.g. EAL Level 3 Award.
Experience
- Essential: Computer literacy skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio etc). Proven experience in holding similar roles previously. Strong interpersonal skills (role will be client facing).
- Preferred: Experienced in working within critical environments. Knowledge of IET COP 5th Edition and other relevant requirements.
