Job DescriptionWhat We DoWe design, develop, deploy, and support real-time trading systems. We care deeply about system reliability, testability, recoverability, fault tolerance, throughput, and latency. We measure times in microseconds, sometimes even nanoseconds. Our engineers have a strong understanding of computer science fundamentals and software engineering. We are analytical thinkers. We are always learning our craft. If it's broken, we fix it. If it needs refactoring, we refactor it. If it's hard to test, we make it testable.

We like statistics. We love automation. We are pragmatic. We ship code weekly. We're looking for like-minded individuals to join us. About the RoleThis is a unique hybrid engineering role for someone who combines deep expertise in test automation with a passion for build engineering and continuous delivery.

Based in London, you will sit at the intersection of two critical disciplines β€” ensuring the quality of Cboe Europe's trading infrastructure through world-class automated testing, while simultaneously serving as a local engineering resource for our global builds and release process.

Cboe Europe operates three equities exchanges, one trade reporting facility, and a platform for systematic internalizers. The quality and reliability of these platforms is non-negotiable. You will be a key guardian of that standard.

Equally important, you will bring vision and leadership to our build engineering practice. You'll work closely with our builds team in the US to understand and support the existing release process, while proactively identifying opportunities to modernise it β€” leveraging current industry best practices to move us towards a faster, more reliable, and more automated delivery pipeline. This is not simply a role for someone who executes; it's a role for someone who can see what "good" looks like, build consensus across teams and time zones, and drive meaningful, lasting change.

What You'll Be Responsible ForTest Automation (Primary Focus)Designing, developing, and maintaining automated tests, frameworks, and test infrastructure using object-oriented programming principles and production-quality codeExtending and improving our proprietary Python-based test automation frameworkAnalysing complex technical and financial business requirements to design comprehensive test scenarios that realistically represent real-world trading activityCreating detailed test documentation and test plans for new featuresIdentifying, documenting, and tracking defects; verifying fixes resolve issues completelyPerforming root cause analysis on test failures and system issuesSupporting and maintaining test environments, ensuring they remain stable and consistently "green"Contributing to and improving continuous integration pipelinesParticipating in code reviews, design discussions, and agile ceremoniesWorking closely with software development, business, and trade desk teams across Cboe's global organisationBuild & Release Engineering (Secondary Focus)Serving as the London-based point of contact for build and release activities, partnering with the US builds team to support our weekly release process across trading platformsProviding oversight for build and test environments, ensuring stability and consistencyContributing to the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines and status dashboardsIdentifying and championing improvements to our build and release processes, with a clear vision for modernisation aligned to current industry standardsGathering requirements, building consensus across engineering stakeholders, and designing and delivering a roadmap to evolve our build engineering practiceDeveloping and maintaining scripts and tooling to support build, test, and release activitiesSupporting software configuration management and version control best practicesThe Ideal Candidate HasStrong programming experience in Python, with a track record of writing maintainable, well-documented, production-quality codeProven experience designing and developing automated test frameworks and test infrastructureExperience working in a continuous integration/continuous delivery environment, with tools such as Jenkins or GitHub ActionsExperience with version control systems, particularly GitLinux/Unix proficiency as an end user, with the ability to perform system administration tasks and write shell scriptsSQL experience (PostgreSQL preferred) and familiarity with database platformsUnderstanding of build tools such as Ant, Maven, or CMakeFamiliarity with package managers such as npm, nix and uvFamiliarity with containerisation and virtualisation technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and AWSStrong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills β€” able to articulate technical concepts clearly to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholdersA proactive, self-starting approach to identifying and resolving issuesDegree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (preferred)You'll Really Stand Out WithExperience with Jenkins CI/CD tooling, including pipeline management and failure troubleshootingA demonstrable track record of leading or driving improvements to build and release processes at an organisational level β€” not just executing, but envisioning and delivering changeExperience working programmatically with the Atlassian toolset (Jira)Experience in financial markets, with knowledge of order entry, market data protocols, or trading system architectureUnderstanding of networking concepts and distributed systemsWho This Role Is ForThis role is best suited for an experienced software engineer who is as comfortable writing test automation code daily as they are thinking strategically about delivery pipelines and build infrastructure.

You are someone who writes code because you enjoy it, not because it's required. You understand the difference between where we are and where we could be β€” and you have the drive, the communication skills, and the technical credibility to close that gap. If you thrive in fast-paced environments, enjoy working across global teams, and want a role where your contributions directly impact the reliability of critical financial market infrastructure, we'd love to hear from you.
