CBEC eco-engineering UK is a growing environmental consultancy specialising in water resources and environmental management. Eco-engineering concerns the combination of sustainable ecological best practice with innovative methods of environmental engineering. Our key focus areas are river and floodplain restoration, natural flood management, fisheries and barrier management, and wetland design. CBEC has developed bespoke methodologies for topographic/bathymetric surveying, using the latest survey equipment, better fulfilling the requirements of specific projects while adhering to quality control standards.

Often, our technical staff work on projects from conception through to completion, carrying out both the initial and post-construction fieldwork, allowing staff to be involved across the full process of a project. Working on projects throughout the UK, the company currently has over 30 staff based in its offices in Inverness, Stirling, and London. We also carry out work, including fieldwork, in other countries with current live projects in Iceland, Norway, and Ireland.

We are looking for a graduate to fill a position within our technical team. The primary role, initially, will be field data collection, including topographic and bathymetric surveying, geomorphological surveys, sediment sampling, and flow measurements for the purposes of sustainable river management. The position will involve a combination of on-site data collection and office-based processing and analysis. Both formal and informal (in-house) training will be given across the full range of CBEC’s field-based services, in addition to a suite of desk-based skills (e.g. hydrological assessments, GIS, and AutoCAD) where appropriate. This training will provide the successful candidate with the means to develop their career and interests at CBEC across our service and focus areas. We are looking for candidates based in, or prepared to relocate to, central Scotland.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducting topographic/bathymetric surveys
  • Supporting morphological, hydrological or other physical river assessments
  • Processing collected data and generating required outputs
  • Manipulating and analysing data using GIS, Excel and CAD
  • Provision of technical input to project reports and proposals
  • Communicating regularly with project managers and other technical team members
  • Adhering to all HSE requirements (e.g. site inductions) and undertaking risk assessments and method statements (following training)

Essential Criteria:

  • Be educated to at least degree level in a relevant subject, with an interest/understanding of river environments
  • A willingness to travel within the UK and to work outside in adverse weather conditions
  • Proficient with the suite of Microsoft products
  • Good communication skills (e.g. liaising internally with the CBEC project team and externally with clients as well as report writing)
  • Ability to use initiative and best-judgement to resolve problems
  • Full UK Driving licence

Desirable Criteria:

  • A knowledge of surveying and the use of field equipment (e.g. RTK-GNSS, Total Station) and associated processing software (Trimble Business Centre)
  • Experience of CAD and GIS software
  • Experience operating/working with drones
  • Experience gathering data/generating outputs from drone surveys using Trimble Business Centre and DJI Terra
  • Experience working in and around water environments
  • Powerboat Level 2 licence

We are looking to fill this position as soon as possible.
