One of the worlds largest and most successful law firms has a new requirement for a Strategic Intelligence Manager, a role that aligns to the Business Development and Marketing function of the firm and the wider Strategic Intelligence team. The core of the role is to help the firm to gain a stronger picture of industries and sectors in which the firm operates, to identify trends and opportunities. The role will be one in which the successful applicant will be leaning on data and analytics to uncover and produce insight and will produce alerting and reporting tools for key internal stakeholders.

This is a role that would be very much suited to an experienced research analyst working within CI, strategic intelligence or analytical role in a legal, banking, consulting or similar professional services background.

In this role, the primary objectives and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Supporting Business Development and Marketing leadership, Partners, and BD teams to improve current client relationships and target new clients through strategic programs.
  • The creation and management of alerts designed to track key clients and targets.
  • Uncovering, sharing and presenting insights with partners and BD teams, and proposing practical actions.
  • Working with the practice BD lead to identify and prioritise potential opportunities and clients.
  • Researching and building detailed profiles of companies, including details about their operations, key contacts, recent deals, legal matters, and news.
  • Comparing the firm’s position with competitors by analysing strengths and weaknesses, league tables, transactions, legal cases, and industry news.
  • Tracking and analysing new developments in different industries and areas utilising data sources.
  • Researching sectors and growth areas to help the firm focus its BD efforts effectively.
  • Identify relevant trends and providing clear, actionable insights.
  • Using data visualisation skills and tools to tell stories with data.

To be a suitable candidate for this requirement, a strong mix of the following is required:

  • Considerable experience in a similar analytical driven research and insight role, ideally gained within a professional services, banking or complex corporate setting.
  • The ability to lean on analytics and data to uncover insight.
  • Experience across a wide spectrum of data and information resources.
  • An ability to translate company financials and filings.
  • A strong knowledge of data capture and reporting tools.
  • The ability to translate complex data driven information into presentations and visualisations that simply and tell the story behind the data.
  • An accomplished stakeholder manager, influencer and presenter.
  • The ability to manage a mix of projects and conflicting priorities.
  • A track record of demonstrating initiative and the ability to remain assertive when proposing solutions.
