A UK strategy consultancy with a global reach has a newly created opportunity within their London office for a Research Manager to join the firm and head up a team of 3 Researchers. Within this function, this extremely well-resourced Research team is covering a number of sectors including Industrials, Life Sciences, Consumer and Financial Services. The primary objectives of the Research Manager will be the delivery and continuous improvement of the research service, the management of budgets and vendors, line management, forging relationships with key stakeholders and advising around how technology, in particular AI, can be harnessed for efficiencies within research.
It is a role that would be most suited to an established research leader from a professional services or similar background and ideally someone that is familiar with managing relationships with a geographically dispersed team and stakeholders.
The primary objectives and responsibilities of the Research Manager include, but are not limited to:
- Managing and developing a research service covering topics such as Industrials, Life Sciences, Consumer and Financial Services
- Setting and managing the research budget, tracking expenditure and cost-control
- Managing the relationships, purchasing and renewals with multiple vendors such as MergerMarket, Bloomberg, GlobalData and multiple others
- Seeking out opportunities to leverage technology and in particular AI
- Managing a team of 3 that are based across the UK and Europe
- Forging and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and stakeholder groups including Partners in the firm
- Overseeing the delivery of research training and the promotion of a self-service culture
- Operating at both a strategic and operational level, including supporting on enquiries or research projects
To be a suitable candidate for this Research Manager requirement, candidates will need a strong mix of the following:
- Experience leading or managing a team of research or information professionals in a professional services or similar environment
- An ability to operate as a subject matter expert and to mentor less experienced researchers
- Experience with budgets, expenditure and cost-control
- A strong knowledge of business research resources such as Bloomberg, Orbis, GlobalData and MergerMarket
- Previous experience managing vendor relationships, subscriptions and renewals
- An appreciation of the role of technology, and in particular AI solutions, in the research sector
- Experience managing projects and conflicting priorities
