The Legal and Business Research Adviser will operate as a trusted adviser to lawyers and business services teams, delivering a research service that supports client work, business development and strategic decision‑making. Beyond the core research aspects of the role, the position will have a wider remit of information services and KM responsibilities. The position would suit someone that already has considerable experience, but equally there is the internal resource to support someone relatively early in their career that is eager to learn.
The primary responsibilities and objectives include, but are not limited to:
- Delivering legal research across case law, legislation, regulation and commentary
- Providing business, industry and sector research, including company profiling and market analysis
- Supporting complex and high‑value research enquiries, advising on approach and risk
- Developing and refining legal and sector‑specific current awareness and monitoring
- Contributing research and insight to pitches, credentials and panel submissions
- Designing and delivering engaging research training and digital learning resources
- Supporting the development of library systems, digital platforms and AI tools
- Managing research resources, subscriptions, collections and access
- Acting as a visible and approachable adviser across the firm
- Working closely with stakeholder groups that include lawyers, business services teams, IT and suppliers
To be a suitable candidate for this Legal and Business Research Adviser role, a strong mix of the following is required:
- Experience delivering legal and business research within a law firm or professional services environment
- Strong knowledge of legal information sources, research methodologies and current awareness tools
- A proven ability to distil complex information into a variety of different formats and outputs
- Experience designing and delivering research training
- High levels of IT literacy and confidence using research and knowledge platforms
- Refined communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience with or an interest in working with AI‑enabled research tools would be particularly welcome.
