This role is located in Marchwood, within the Cawood Scientific Environment Division. Marchwood, part of Cawood, was established in 1998 and performs a range of specialist analytical testing services to customers operating in the Environmental, Industrial and Agricultural Sectors from its three laboratories based in the South and North of England. As a leading UK Dioxin and Furans analysis laboratory and the UK’s leading specialist laboratory for independent occupational hygiene analysis, Marchwood offers a range of services for the environmental, occupational and food/feed sectors.
Job Description:
- To learn and become competent in performing routine analysis on samples, working to deadlines and in accordance with UKAS guidelines.
- Perform and interpret analysis on samples using analytical instrumentation.
- Work to UKAS standards (ISO 17025 and MCERTS) to ensure that the agreed quality standards and requirements e.g. calibrations, AQC charts etc. are continually adhered to.
- Perform and monitor QC checks.
- Ensure that all work carried out complies with documented procedures and samples are handled correctly.
- Accurately record and analyse data, identify possible deviations.
- Perform routine instrument calibration and maintenance.
- Troubleshooting, identifying root cause and implement viable corrective actions – know your limitations, ask for assistance from senior analyst/superior when unsure.
- Prepare standards and solutions.
- To aid in the preparation of samples when needed.
- Maintain a high standard of personal knowledge and skills relevant to role through self-directed learning.
- Maintain own training file.
- Keep the laboratory clean and tidy at all times.
- In conjunction with supervisor prioritise and manage workload.
- Effectively communicate with co-workers and superiors.
- Inform team leader/supervisor/manager if resources (staff or equipment) are inadequate to meet demands.
