Join our Cavendish Nuclear business and build a rewarding career in health, safety, and environmental management. Over this 3 to 4-year programme, you\’ll study toward a series of highly respected NEBOSH qualifications while working on projects that protect people, safeguard the environment and support nuclear safety.
About The Programme
As a Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Apprentice, you\’ll become part of a dedicated and supportive team with a shared purpose – to ensure your colleagues and others go home safe every day, and ensure our sites and projects operate responsibly. You\’ll be based at our Warrington office and support a wide variety of work across the Cavendish Nuclear business, including engineering in Nuclear Services, project construction in Civil Decommissioning and Defence and new build installation and commissioning in Clean Energy.
From the very start, you\’ll be involved in meaningful work – supporting operations and projects, assisting the consultancy business with the delivery of toolbox talks, and contributing to assurance inspections and audits. You\’ll also help with fire and operational risk assessments, and collaborate with corporate Health, Safety & Environmental teams. Additionally, you\’ll gain experience working on client contracts with organisations like EDF Energy and Sellafield, and engage with wider industry through safety forums and committees.
There\’ll be opportunities to rotate across different teams and projects, including our Safety, Health, Environment and Radiation Protection function, where you\’ll gain insight into governance, assurance and compliance. You\’ll be encouraged to build your confidence, develop your communication skills and learn how to provide trusted, professional safety advice to a wide range of stakeholders.

As part of this apprenticeship, you will embark on a structured learning journey that combines classroom-based instruction with flexible e-learning modules. These accredited courses are carefully designed to complement your practical, work-based activities and reflective tasks – ensuring you develop the essential knowledge, skills, and competencies to become a qualified Health & Safety Advisor.
You Will Complete The Following Nationally Recognised NEBOSH Qualifications
- NEBOSH Level 3 National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
- NEBOSH Level 3 Certificate in Fire Safety
- NEBOSH Level 3 Certificate in Environmental Management
- NEBOSH Level 6 National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (DipNEBOSH)
This comprehensive learning programme is ideal for individuals aspiring to build a professional career in health, safety, and environmental management. Upon successful completion, you will be entitled to use the prestigious post-nominal letters DipNEBOSH, signifying your achievement and professional standing.
Future prospects
By the end of your apprenticeship, you\’ll be ready to step into the role of a qualified Health and Safety Advisor, with a competitive salary exceeding £35,773.
From there, your development doesn\’t stop. We\’ll support you as you grow into more senior roles and take on greater responsibility. Through the Babcock Role Framework, you\’ll have a clear view of how your career can progress, with mapped-out pathways, development opportunities, leadership programmes and the tools you need to get wherever you want to go.

- Many of our apprenticeship programmes are subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions which mean that your place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency you hold or have held may impact which programmes you are eligible for.
