We are seeking a friendly, reliable, and organised individual to join our team as a Receptionist / Care Co-ordinator, based at Cavendish Medical Practice within the Summerfield Primary Care Centre. This vital role is central to the smooth day-to-day operation of the practice and involves being the first point of contact for patients both in person and over the phone.

Reporting to the Practice Manager, the Receptionist works closely with all staff members and interacts with a range of external contacts including patients, their families, training providers, and external contractors.

Main duties of the job

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for handling patient enquiries, managing appointments, issuing prescriptions and correspondence, and carrying out a range of essential administrative tasks.
  • In addition, they will contribute to clinical support activities such as chaperoning, and assisting with data input to help the practice meet its quality and performance targets.
  • Strong communication skills, a commitment to patient confidentiality, and the ability to work well under pressure are key to this role.
  • The position requires punctuality as it's an 8am start, empathetic friendly character with polite mannerism and ability to multi-task.
  • Compliance and completion of all compulsory training which will be offered, including safeguarding.
  • Flexibility, teamwork, and a patient-focused attitude are essential as the care co-ordinator plays a key role in supporting both clinical and administrative teams to deliver high-quality care.

About us

We are located in the Summerfield Primary Care Centre in Winson Green in the West Locality of Birmingham. With 2 GP partners who work closely with the Practice Manager in day-to-day communications and weekly management meetings and a committed team of 15 clinical and non-clinical staff. Our CQC rating is Good.

Job responsibilities

  • To assist in the smooth running of the practice by dealing with patients at the front desk, in person and on the phone and by carrying out administrative tasks as advised by line manager.

Person Specification

  • Qualifications: GCSE Grade A to C / 4 and above in English and Maths.
  • Experience working in NHS, specifically in General Practice.
  • Proficient in using EMIS, Docman, ICE, and Accurx systems.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office applications i.e. Word and Excel.
  • Depending on experience: National minimum wage or more depending on experience.
