DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluate the overall status of the residents by observations and interviews with the staff and/or resident in order to complete an accurate M.D.S.
- Complete the M.D.S. on a timely basis as per state and federal regulations.
- Input the M.D.S. in the computer and transmit as per state and federal requirements.
- Print C.A.T. and C.A.A. and either complete or assist with their completion.
- After the C.A.T. and C.A.A. are completed, work with the interdisciplinary team in order to complete the care plan.
- Input the care plan in the computer.
- Update or assist with updating the care plans as needed.
- Communicate with residents, family members, other disciplines and health care professionals regarding the status of the resident.
- Be capable of working the floor if the need arises.
- Be knowledgeable about and promote resident rights.
- Prevent abuse, neglect and exploitation in the elderly.
- Promote a safe, clean environment in which the residents may live.
- Check the 24-Hour Report daily in order to be aware of changes in the residents’ conditions and/or plans of treatment in order that a Significant Change M.D.S. can be completed, if applicable.
- Any other duties and responsibilities as requested by the Director of Nursing or R.N. Coordinator.
- Become a participating facility team member with the residents as first priority.
- Keep all departments (Nursing, Social Services, Activities, Dietary and Therapy) aware of the M.D.S. schedule.

- Hearing: Taking instructions from the Administrator, responding to resident complaints and requests, responding appropriately to disaster instructions and pages
- Sight: For performing job effectively and correctly
- Smell: For accurate detection and maintenance of facility odors
- Touch: In order to detect changes in temperature
LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
Must be an L.P.N. or R.N. currently licensed and in good standing with the Board of Nursing in the state in which the facility is located.
SUMMARY OF OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE:
Tasks and procedures performed by the employee involve risks classified by C.D.C. as Category I. (Direct contact with blood or other bodily fluids to which universal precautions apply.)
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to tolerate a high pace as typical for a nursing facility. Must be able to take and give instructions well and enjoy working with the elderly. Although employee is required to sit for prolonged periods of time, he/she must also be able to tolerate prolonged standing and walking.
