Caval Recruitment is proud to be partnering with a well-established civil engineering contractor to recruit a Health & Safety Advisor. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a respected business with a strong safety culture, working across active civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
Reporting to the H&S Manager, you will provide practical, hands-on health and safety support across site operations, helping to embed a proactive safety culture and ensure full legislative compliance at all times.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out regular site inspections, audits, and safety tours across active civil engineering projects
- Support the development, review, and implementation of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, producing detailed reports and implementing corrective actions
- Deliver toolbox talks, inductions, and H&S briefings to site operatives and management
- Monitor compliance with company H&S policies, procedures, and relevant legislation
- Liaise with site managers, project teams, and subcontractors to drive H&S performance
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of Construction Phase Plans and F10 notifications
- Keep up to date with changes in health and safety legislation and best practice
- Support the H&S Manager with reporting, KPIs, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Act as a positive ambassador for health and safety across all sites
- Proven experience in a Health & Safety role within civil engineering, highways, or infrastructure
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate – essential
- Tech IOSH membership (or working towards Grad IOSH / CMIOSH) – desirable
- Strong understanding of CDM 2015 Regulations
- Experience conducting site audits, inspections, and incident investigations
- Ability to produce and review RAMS, Construction Phase Plans, and HSE documentation
- Confident communicator with the ability to engage at all levels – from operative to director
- Practical, hands-on approach with the ability to challenge unsafe behaviours constructively
- Full UK driving licence – essential (travel between sites required)
