Purpose

The Group Accountant is responsible for delivering high-quality technical accounting support, statutory and tax reporting, and accurate and timely group consolidation. The role will also lead our annual external audit process and support the broader finance function in ensuring there is robust financial control, compliance and reporting across the group.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Accounting
    • Provide specialist guidance on complex accounting matters, including revenue recognition, impairment, lease accounting, business combinations, provisions, and financial instruments as the Group transitions to the updated FRS102 (and in due course IFRS).
    • Review new accounting standards and assess their impact on the group.
    • Develop and maintain accounting policies, ensuring consistent application across all subsidiaries.
    • Support the business with accounting treatments for M&A, new contracts, group structures and debt transactions.
  • Group Consolidation and Reporting
    • Prepare monthly and annual consolidated financial results for the group, including consolidated balance sheet and cashflow statements.
    • Maintain and enhance the group consolidation on NetSuite, ensuring accuracy, alignment, and data integrity across all entities.
    • Perform intercompany eliminations, foreign currency translations and consolidation adjustments.
  • Statutory Reporting
    • Assist in the preparation of the annual statutory accounts for the parent company and relevant subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards.
    • Coordinate with our local finance teams (UK/US/Fr/Bel/Ind) to ensure the timely delivery of statutory financial information from all jurisdictions.
    • Ensure appropriate documentation and audit trails are maintained for all statutory submissions.
  • Tax Reporting
    • Assist the external advisors in the preparation of corporate tax computations, deferred tax calculations, and tax notes for statutory accounts.
    • Support tax advisors in the preparation and submission of tax returns.
    • Monitor changes in tax legislation affecting the group and work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance.
    • Assist in transfer pricing documentation and intercompany transaction review, and R&D tax credit filings.
  • External Audit Management
    • Act as the primary point of contact for the external auditors.
    • Coordinate and lead the annual audit process across the group, ensuring all audit deliverables prepared and reviewed ahead of deadlines.
    • Resolve audit queries and ensure smooth delivery of audited financial statements.
    • Review audit findings and work with the finance team to implement process and control improvements.
  • Financial Controls and Process Improvement
    • Strengthen internal controls across the group, ensuring risks are identified and mitigated.
    • Develop and implement improvements to reporting processes, systems, and controls for increased efficiency and accuracy.
    • Support ad hoc finance projects, including system implementations, M&A integrations, FRS102 transition, and finance transformation initiatives.

Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Essential Skills
    • Fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent).
    • 3+ years post-qualification experience in a group accounting role within a multinational or multi-entity corporate environment.
    • Strong technical-accounting experience ideally gained either in practice (e.g. Big 4 or mid-tier firm) or within a complex organisation.
    • Experience leading external audits.
    • Proficiency with consolidation and ERP systems.
    • Strong Excel skills; experience with reporting tools beneficial.
  • Desirable Skills
    • Experience of integration of new acquisitions.
    • Experience of using NetSuite.
