Purpose
Our technology is used by thousands of companies and affects millions of lives.
You will be responsible for the quality of software development and deployment, performing and creating automated and manual tests to ensure software is fit for purpose.
You will analyse software and systems, mitigate risk and prevent software issues.
The Software Engineer will report to the Engineering Lead.
The key areas of responsibility for the Software Engineer include
Key Responsibilities
- Design, code, test, and debug technical solutions including complex components, ensuring quality standards are achieved.
- Provide product support (fixing defects) in older technologies where required, including moving the legacy product forward into newer web technologies.
- Write clean, well-designed, documented code that follows best practices.
- Estimate effort to accomplish requirements and ensure schedules are met.
- Collaborate with other team members to specify, design, and develop software meeting product requirements.
- Identify process deficiencies and propose and implement solutions and improvements.
- Ensure technical implementation is sound, defect rates are minimised, and products are inexpensive to maintain and support.
- Work with the security team to ensure data security standards are met.
- Take responsibility for personal development and stay up to date with emerging trends relevant to solutions being developed.
- Continuously strive for innovative solutions and suggest improvements to drive efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity.
- Support colleagues with professional problems, share knowledge, and foster a positive, collaborative environment.
- Key Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Essential
- Experience in Java.
- Good understanding and experience of My SQL.
- Understanding of APIs / REST.
- Experience in unit testing.
- Good knowledge of quality standards, legislation and best practice.
- Awareness of current trends and developments in software engineering.
- Experience with Agile (Kanban) methodologies and project management.
- Ability to identify technical risks and propose alternative solutions.
- Degree level or equivalent education preferred in a relevant subject such as computer science, computer engineering, information management systems, software development or business information systems.
Desirable
- Experience in Type Script/Angular would be advantageous.
- Awareness and experience of GCP and/or AWS plus Azure Dev Ops.
- Highly developed attention to detail.
