About us: Causaly is redefining how humans acquire knowledge and develop insights in biomedicine. Our AI-powered platform enables researchers and decision-makers to discover and interpret evidence from millions of scientific publications, clinical trials, regulatory documents, and other complex data sources in minutes. We are building the worldβs most advanced biomedical knowledge platform, powered by a high-precision Knowledge Graph and GenAI capabilities. Our technology is already used by leading biopharmaceutical organizations to accelerate drug discovery, improve safety, and drive better decision-making. Backed by top-tier investors including ICONIQ, Index Ventures, Pentech, and Marathon, we are scaling rapidly and expanding our product suite and market presence.
The Role: We're looking for a commercially-minded lawyer to own the legal function at Causaly. This is a standalone role, reporting into the COO and working across the business on everything from complex enterprise contracts to data licensing and corporate governance. You'll need to be comfortable operating independently, bringing structure where there isn't any, and knowing when to bring in external support. This role is based in our London office, 4 days a week on-site.
What You'll Do:
- Own and negotiate enterprise SaaS agreements with global pharma and biotech clients, including MSAs, DPAs, and order forms.
- Advise on data licensing arrangements, IP ownership, and AI-related legal considerations β including model training rights, output ownership, and evolving regulatory frameworks.
- Support commercial partnerships, vendor agreements, and third-party contracts.
- Provide pragmatic legal guidance to the leadership team on risk, compliance, and regulatory matters.
- Manage external counsel relationships and spend efficiently.
- Contribute to corporate governance, board matters, and any future fundraising or M&A activity.
- Build out scalable legal processes and templates as the company grows, leveraging AI tools to increase efficiency and throughput.
- Advise on US commercial and contractual matters, including US-specific contract structures, state law considerations, and working with US-based enterprise clients.
What We're Looking For:
- Qualified solicitor with 5β10 PQE, ideally with a mix of top-tier private practice and in-house experience.
- Strong commercial contracts background, particularly in technology, SaaS, or data-driven businesses.
- Familiarity with data protection law (UK GDPR) and IP frameworks relevant to AI and software.
- Demonstrable experience using AI tools in legal practice β whether for contract review, drafting, research, or process automation; we expect our lawyers to work with AI, not around it.
- Experience working with enterprise clients, ideally in regulated industries such as pharma or life sciences.
- Able to give clear, confident legal advice without unnecessary caveats; a pragmatic problem-solver, not a blocker.
- Comfortable working autonomously in a fast-moving environment with limited support infrastructure.
- Life sciences or health tech exposure is a plus, but not required.
