So, what will the role of a Principal Geotechnical Engineer entail?
An enthusiastic Geotechnical Engineer is required to support the expansion of the Engineering team. This is a superb opportunity to work on a wide range of multi-disciplinary projects in different sectors including education, commercial, industrial, residential, health, rail and infrastructure, and energy and waste. This isnât just another job â itâs a chance to lead exciting geotechnical work, mentor and develop junior engineers, and take responsibility for key deliverables both in the office and on site. Playing a vital role in nurturing client relationships, contributing to commercial project elements, and ensuring the highest quality standards on everything we deliver, whilst enjoying the flexibility of a hybrid working environment your responsibilities will include:
- Undertaking projects or components of projects in the field and office, taking responsibility for own resource and potentially resource allocation of others
- Managing subcontractors, quality assurance and client feedback and ensuring effective communication of any changes/modifications
- Aid with the mentoring, coaching, technical training and development of more junior staff
- Preparing and checking reports such as Desk Study Reports and GIRs and other project deliverables as required in line with company and client requirements as well as national standards and codes of practice
- Participating in the resolution of project technical issues
- Collaborating with other engineers to ensure the integrity of the project delivery
- Ensure compliance of deliverables for which Caulmert have responsibility, including RAMS, fieldworks, testing, reports and specifications with project requirements
- Enhancing teamâs reputation by delivering high quality work on time and budget
- Commercial input to projects (fee proposals and contract agreements, invoicing, debt management, client management etc) relating to projects for which the individual has responsibility
- Building and maintaining relationships with clients on projects
- Ensure that the Companyâs policies are implemented successfully e.g. compliance with the Company QEMS, ISO14001 and ISO9001 etc
- Performing other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time by your line manager
- Promoting the companyâs services and being alert to new opportunities
What will I need in order to be considered for this role?
- Ambition, commitment and integrity
- Relevant degree in geology/geotechnical or civil engineering, or similar, MSc/MEng in Geotechnical Engineering desirable, Chartered Professional CGeol/CEng desirable
- Broad and in depth ground investigation experience gained from working in either a contracting or consultancy background
- Proven track record of acting in a senior engineering role with experience of responsibility
- Proven experience in geotechnical design of foundations, retaining structures, temporary works, slope stability analysis and preferable the design of soil nailing and anchoring systems.
- Proven track record of delivering complex geotechnical projects across a range of sectors
- Excellent communication and client relationship skills
- Excellent report writing skills with the ability to self-check and produce accurate deliverables
- Team player, self-starter and problem solver with a mature approach and ability to work as part of a larger operations team
- Flexible to travel for assignments
- Familiar with MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc
- Well organised and able to prioritise workload and make decisions with minimal supervision
- Full UK driving licence
