Senior or Principal Hydrogeologist in London

Caulmert Ltd, an award-winning, employee-owned multidisciplinary environmental consultancy, is looking for a Principal Hydrogeologist to join our growing team. We deliver high-quality services across various sectors, including environmental, infrastructure, water resources, waste management, energy and land development. As we expand our hydrogeology services, we are seeking a motivated individual who can lead, inspire, and deliver complex and varied hydrogeological projects.

What You'll Do

• Lead and manage groundwater projects, from initial concept through to delivery and reporting.
• Provide expert advice on hydrogeological issues, including environmental impact assessments, groundwater risk assessments, pollution control, environmental permitting and regulatory submissions.
• Undertake comprehensive hydrogeological assessments, including water resource, abstraction licensing, dewatering assessments, impact (HIA), risk assessments (HRA), groundwater and risk modelling, and contaminated land assessments.
• Liaise with clients, regulators (e.g., Environment Agency, NRW, SEPA), and stakeholders to provide strategic and technical guidance.
• Participate in mentoring and training other staff in key technical areas, sharing your knowledge and encouraging good practices.
• Contribute to business development by preparing proposals, building client relationships, and identifying new opportunities.
• Assist in the development of client relationships and opportunities for continued growth of environmental services based on your skills and areas of expertise.
• Ensure high standards of health, safety, quality, and environmental compliance across all projects.

What we are looking for

• A degree (and ideally a postgraduate qualification) in Hydrogeology, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
• Chartered status (or approaching chartered status) with a relevant professional body (e.g., CIWEM, GeolSoc).
• A minimum of five years of relevant industry experience is required for the Senior position, while eight years of relevant industry experience is necessary for the Principal position. Both roles require demonstrable project leadership and client-facing experience.
• Strong technical skills in groundwater risk assessment, hydrogeological conceptualisation, and groundwater modelling.
• Experience working with UK environmental regulations, permitting, and guidance and negotiations with regulators.
• Project management, management of budget and delivery, to high standards of quality.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• A proactive and collaborative attitude with the ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.
