Shelford Campus will open in 2027 in Caulfield, serving Prep to Year 6 and providing a foundation for a full Junior School. This presents a unique opportunity for a founding teaching team to shape culture and community from the ground up.
The Role
The Shelford Campus Head of Music will establish a vibrant, high‑quality Music programme aligned with the School’s values. Reporting to the Head of Campus and working with the School Director of Music and Music Leadership Team, you will provide vision, lead curriculum, performance and instrumental programmes, and maintain an active teaching presence.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and enhance teaching and learning in Music across the Junior School, establishing an engaging program as Shelford Campus opens.
- Lead and implement a sequential, Kodály‑based Junior School Music curriculum from Prep to Year 6, including assessment and reporting.
- Provide strategic oversight of programmes, including classroom music, instrumental tuition, ensembles, rehearsals and performances.
- Supervise, coach and support classroom and instrumental music teachers, fostering collaboration and professional growth.
- Coordinate and lead music performances, concerts and events, ensuring strong student participation and artistic excellence.
- Work collaboratively with leadership teams to align Junior and Senior School music pathways.
- Promote student engagement and inclusion in Music across curricula.
- Liaise effectively with teachers, parents, tutors and external providers to support learning and performance.
- Contribute to strategic planning, curriculum review and innovation in Music education across the School.
- Manage Music resourcing, spaces and budget, ensuring effective use of materials.
- Demonstrate visible leadership through teaching, rehearsal direction and active involvement in School life.
- Model and live the Caulfield Grammar School values and behaviours.
Skills and Qualifications
- Teaching qualifications with tertiary qualifications in Music and Education (postgraduate desirable).
- Current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration.
- First Aid – Level 2 and Anaphylaxis qualifications.
- Experience teaching and leading Music programmes in a Junior/Primary setting.
- Strong curriculum knowledge, preferably Kodály methodology.
- Leading and managing music staff, including classroom and instrumental teachers.
- Coordinating performance programmes, ensembles, and instrumental tuition.
- Highly developed communication, organisational and time‑management skills.
- Collaboration within leadership teams and across school contexts.
- Experience with the IB PYP Program (advantageous).
