Caudwell Marine is a start-up engineering company, financially backed by John Caudwell, developing an innovative, patented outboard motor vessel and control system. The Caudwell Marine organisation is a small but growing, experienced team of people who are passionate about successfully bringing this technologically leading outboard motor to market. Each team member has a ‘hands on’ approach and supports each other for the benefit of the programme.

Role Profile

You will report to the Stores & Logistics Manager to manage and oversee logistic cycles and material control elements for assembly cells and external shipping and receiving. The role will primarily be a Materials Planner, contributing to the overall strategic direction of the organization for business systems. You will be responsible for setting up all aspects of supply chain management, ensuring the flow of raw materials and final products from suppliers to the manufacturing facility. You will ensure that all the processes and procedures are in place to manage orders and coordinate stock of materials to ensure the company has everything needed to meet customer requirements.

Main Responsibilities

  • Day to day, you will be responsible for managing the release of demands for materials through the internal planning system.
  • Responsible for managing system planning parameters (Lead Times, Minimum Order Quantity etc.).
  • Release of supplier schedules and follow‑up order acknowledgement.
  • Monitor the status of scheduled orders with suppliers and if necessary, re‑schedule to suit the new requirements.
  • Build and maintain good relationships with new and existing suppliers.
  • Liaise directly with suppliers regarding discrepancies on costs, incorrect or unsatisfactory parts in line with the relevant functional departments.
  • Escalate material availability to purchasing and supply chain management stakeholders and ensure production requirements are communicated and prioritised.
  • Ensure continuity of production and on‑time delivery of materials from the suppliers.
  • Implement follow up actions in relation to material availability to purchasing and supply chain management stakeholders and ensure production requirements are communicated and prioritised.
  • Responsible for the control of materials under engineering change process towards all stakeholders.
  • Supporting in issue resolution to ensure material availability for production.
  • Working with operations, quality and purchasing teams to support production.
  • Supporting initiatives to improve inventory accuracy and systems planning parameters.
  • Ensure material management is aligned to new product introduction.
  • Support BOM Administration function by monitoring the integrity of the Bill of Materials (BOM) and manage inventory accuracy.
  • Maintain the systems to ensure correct parameters are maintained and the MRP is effective.
  • Deliver improvements in point of use material availability.
  • Compare inventory levels against agreed target levels.
  • Support supply chain performance efforts by monitoring and tracking supplier performance metrics.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders in continuous improvement activities within the Material planning function and evolve existing processes through continuous improvement tasks, aiming for greater discipline, control, and documentation within all functions.

Previous Experience

  • Experience in customs regulations with regards to import and export from a process and paperwork perspective.
  • Warehouse & Logistics process management.
  • Kanban & vendor managed stock holdings and management.
  • MRP/MRPII/ERP (SyteLine).
  • PC Literate (Excel, Access, MS Word, MS Outlook).
  • Minimum of 5 years in industrial experience preferable in a Marine environment although Automotive/Aerospace will be considered.
  • Working in a shopfloor environment.
  • Results orientated.
  • Worked in a Small, Medium Enterprise (SME) and can demonstrate the ability to ‘roll their sleeves up’ and personally get things done as part of a small team.
