Catto & Co is seeking a quantity surveyor to join its team in London. Catto & Co is a London-based “turn-key” design and build firm that specialises in delivering excellent architectural and interior design, efficient project management and high-quality construction. Our aim is to remove the complexity from domestic construction projects with a driven team all under one roof. We pride ourselves on our open, fast-paced and friendly team.

As a quantity surveyor at Catto & Co, you will play a pivotal role in managing the financial and contractual aspects of varying scales of residential projects. While the role will focus primarily on cost planning, procurement, and financial control, there will be opportunities to be involved in all stages of the design and construction process; from early feasibility and budgeting through to final account agreement. At Catto & Co we foster a collaborative studio environment, where you will be an integral part of a talented team. This team extends beyond the office and part of your responsibility is liaising with designers, contractors, suppliers, and other professionals to ensure that our projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets and feasibility studies for residential projects.
  • Manage project costs from inception through to completion, ensuring financial efficiency and control.
  • Prepare and issue tender documentation, analyse returned tenders and make recommendations.
  • Negotiate contracts and procurement of subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Monitor project expenditure and produce regular cost reports and forecasts.
  • Work closely with project managers and site teams to ensure cost-effective delivery and resolve financial or contractual issues.
  • Value completed works and arrange payments, including interim valuations and final accounts.
  • Identify, manage and mitigate commercial risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of current construction costs, materials and market conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant contracts, legislation and industry standards.

Skills and attributes

  • You should be a quantity surveyor with more than two years’ experience in the UK residential sector.
  • Strong understanding of cost management, procurement processes and contract administration.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets and familiar with industry-standard cost management software.
  • Detail-oriented with strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Knowledgeable about current construction methods, materials and UK building regulations.
  • A proactive problem-solver with the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • Fluent in English, with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Additional information

  • Start date ASAP.
  • Three-month probation period required to make sure that you are a good fit for us and vice versa.
  • Salary dependant on experience within the industry.
  • Regular working hours are 8.30am to 5.30pm; flexible working possible.
