We're looking for a proactive, hands-on Facilities and Maintenance Technician to help keep our laboratories, infrastructure and equipment running safely, efficiently and compliantly. If you enjoy solving practical problems, working in a technical environment and making a visible impact every day, this could be the role for you.
What You'll Be Doing
- Managing laboratory gases: monitoring levels, changing cylinders, ordering and tracking ownership
- Safely handling and moving gas cylinders and laboratory equipment
- Carrying out PAT testing, asset tracking and managing technical spare stock
- Delivering preventative maintenance, servicing schedules and basic fault finding
- Supporting installation, relocation and utilities assessment for new lab equipment
- Maintaining gloveboxes (regenerations, carbon changes, infrastructure repairs and access)
- Connecting scientific equipment to gas, extract, heating/cooling systems and pumps
- Supporting and maintaining HVAC systems
- Conducting HSE and compliance checks
- Ownership of LEV testing and fume cupboard sash balancing
- Supervising external contractors and supporting internal maintenance projects
- Assisting with waste processing, deliveries and general facilities requests
- Taking part in spill response, fire warden duties, H&S committees, audits and safety initiatives
- Contributing to general site upkeep, DIY tasks and continuous improvement projects
You'll be at the heart of keeping our labs safe, compliant and operational - enabling our science teams to focus on delivering exceptional work.
About You
You're practical, organised and solution-focused, with a strong commitment to safety and compliance. You enjoy hands-on technical work and take pride in maintaining high standards.
We're Particularly Interested In People With
- Experience in laboratory facilities, maintenance, engineering support or a similar technical environment
- A strong understanding of health & safety and compliance in laboratory or industrial settings
- A hands-on approach and strong problem-solving skills
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and respond quickly to internal customer needs
- Willingness to support a mix of technical, operational and administrative tasks
- GCSE (or equivalent) grade C/4 or above in Maths and English
It would be great (but not essential) if you also have:
- A relevant technical or engineering qualification
- PAT testing certification
- Knowledge or qualifications in LEV compliance testing
- Experience with laboratory gas infrastructure installations
- Experience working with HVAC systems
