Overview Of The Job: We deliver a first-class experience at Bosworth Independent School, and the Catering team plays a crucial part by providing quality, healthy meals every day to students, staff and visitors. As a Chef, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the catering provision in the kitchen, including production of meals and supporting Catering Assistants. You will maintain high food hygiene standards and ensure health and safety procedures are followed, with the aim of maintaining a 5* rating from Environmental Health Organisation. This role reports to the Catering Manager and is part of the Operations Team (Cleaning, Catering and Maintenance). This is a full-time role (40 hours per week), covering weekdays and weekends on a rotating shift pattern.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide and produce meals at high volume while maintaining quality and value for money.
- Ensure a varied and balanced diet for students and staff in line with government legislation (school food policy/boarding standards).
- Understand HACCP, COSHH, Level 2 Hygiene and SFBB procedures.
- Recommend and promote new menu ideas and events, and develop new recipes for a diverse student population.
- Manage catering staff during evening and weekend catering provision.
- Oversee Health & Safety within the Catering team.
- Be computer literate and manage staff sickness and holiday records online.
- Keep SFBB up to date with current staff details and suppliers; induct new staff in chemical safety (COSHH) and food hygiene; ensure staff complete required courses.
- Report incidents, accidents or complaints in SFBB and escalate urgent incidents to the Head of Operations.
- Collaborate with the Head of Operations and catering team to produce new menus.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Experience in high-volume catering and kitchen management is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene and related legislation.
- Ability to work as part of a team and lead catering staff on evenings and weekends.
