Are you ready to take the next step toward leadership this summer? Managing, developing, and supporting are just some of the duties of our Assistant Director of Studies. This is a fantastic chance to earn while working in a dynamic, multicultural environment, helping young learners improve their English.

At Stafford House Study Holidays, we welcome over 6,000 young learners (aged 8–17) from around the world each summer. Our mission is to help students improve their English through engaging classroom lessons and a lively program of activities and excursions.

What does it involve?

  • Locations: Uxbridge, West London; Cambridge; Oakham, Leicestershire; York (new for 2026)
  • Contracts: 5–8 weeks from 16th June to 23rd August 2026, depending on the school you work at. Flexible.
  • Hours: Fully immersive: 55 hours per week over 6 days. Residential role with full-board accommodation. Attendance at managers training weekend on 19th June 2026 required.
  • Pay: £699.05 per week plus holiday entitlement. Emergency Phone cover up to £40 per week (≈£20 per night, 2× per week). Loyalty payments (if applicable) £23–43 per week, paid at end of contract.
  • Support: Small class sizes (average 15 students). Materials included. Supported by Senior teachers, the Director of Studies, and the Academic & Training Manager.
  • Incentives: Free CPD remote training course in June 2026. Post‐summer incentive: free DELTA One Module and selected additional teaching courses (T&Cs apply).

Qualifications and experience:

  • Ideally prior experience in a summer school.
  • At least 3 years full‐time EFL experience.
  • First degree or equivalent; must be EFL/TESOL qualified (e.g., CELTA, CertTESOL, or other TEFL certificate meeting Accreditation UK).
  • PGCE in English, Modern Foreign Languages, or Primary also considered.
  • Excellent communication skills; written and spoken English equivalent to CEF level C1 (CAE/IELTS 7.0).
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Will undergo full pre‐employment checks including Enhanced DBS.

Duties:

  • Assist the Director of Studies in managing the academic programme and teaching team.
  • Deputise for teaching resources and quality delivery of lessons.
  • Ensure lessons and activities are integrated for optimal learning, including organising teacher rotas for the activity programme.
  • Support weekly staff meetings and conduct CPD sessions.
  • Guide NQTs and experienced teachers through observation, appraisal, and feedback.
  • Participate in pastoral duties, including night duties on rota.
