Ideally you will have a passion for food, excellent culinary skills and have experience working in a busy environment delivering high quality service and food provision. Principal responsibilities/duties:
Overall responsibility for the preparation, and serving of meals to boarders at weekends (lunch & evening meal). (One sitting/average of 60 covers)
To deliver healthy and high quality meals and acknowledging the diversity across our student body
Responsible for the clearing up after all sittings and meeting expected hygiene and health & safety within the kitchen and refectory environment
Undertake, when required, any other such reasonable duties associated with supporting the needs of the School, as may be determined by the Catering Manager.
Catering Provision:
To achieve best value meals without compromising on quality
Ensure that meals are of good quality, well cooked, nicely presented and served hot and on time
To making provision as appropriate for special food diets, religions and include options that are suitable for vegetarians.
Order stocks accordingly in liaison with the catering manager
Proficient at preparing meals from fresh
To be accountable for the daily provision of food and hygiene in the facility
Menus are as directed by the Catering Manager and any amendments/alterations should be discussed with your line manager.
To liaise with the catering manager regarding suitability of menus and the ordering of supplies
To be responsible for the cleanliness & hygiene of all catering and dining areas as well as all kitchen utensils
Health and Safety:
To ensure adherence to all procedures related to Health and Safety and COSHH regulations with regard to food, equipment, and general safety.
To ensure the safe operation of kitchen equipment at all times and report any faults immediately.
To ensure that all kitchen areas are clean and free from hazards
To ensure that all accidents and incidents are reported, including notifiable diseases.
To ensure the security of the catering areas at all times.
In addition to the duties outlined above, all employees are required to take care of their own and other people’s health and safety.
Lock up and secure site at the end of the shift.
Person Specification
Essential
Minimum NVQ Level 2 in catering or similar
Evidence of international cuisine, ideally Asian/Chinese
The post will require an enhanced DBS disclosure
Proven organisational and communication skills
Positive attitude and a professional approach to responsibilities
Ability to work well under pressure, managing a range of priorities and flexibility in hours as necessary for the proper fulfilment of duties
Punctual and reliable
Integrity and honesty
Flexibility to work additional hours as and when required
Desirable
NVQ Level 3 in cookery or equivalent
Food Hygiene certification
Experience of working with students, in a similar or comparable role
