JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join our faculty as a part-time Computer Science Teacher.

• 30 hours per week - 0.8 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE)
• Purpose of the Role

CATS College Cambridge is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and well-qualified Teacher of Computer Science to teach across GCSE, Pre-A Level and A Level programmes.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging, challenging and well-structured lessons that enable students to make excellent academic progress.

They will contribute to a purposeful and ambitious academic culture, support students from a range of educational and international backgrounds and help develop Computer Science as a dynamic and forward-looking subject within the College.

The postholder will be expected to teach Computer Science with confidence across the age and ability range, including examination classes, and to contribute fully to the academic, pastoral and wider life of the College.

• MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Teaching & Learning
• Plan and deliver high-quality Computer Science lessons across GCSE, Pre-A Level and A Level
• Teach both theoretical and practical topics (e. g. programming, algorithms, systems)
• Differentiate effectively and sequence lessons to meet diverse needs
• Foster curiosity, independence, resilience and confidence
• Develop strong programming practice (logic, testing, debugging, accuracy)
• Prepare students for exams through targeted teaching, revision and feedback
• Maintain high standards of behaviour, organisation and academic integrity
• Create an engaging, purposeful classroom environment
• Use digital tools and platforms to enhance learning
• Curriculum & Subject Development
• Contribute to schemes of work, resources and assessments
• Support a coherent, rigorous curriculum aligned to higher education pathways
• Stay up to date with subject and educational developments
• Support enrichment (e. g. coding clubs, competitions, projects)

• Assess, track and monitor student progress in line with policies
• Provide timely feedback on work and exam preparation

Person Specification

Essential

The successful candidate will have

• A good honours degree in Computer Science, Computing, Software Engineering or a closely related subject.
• A recognised teaching qualification, or a willingness to work towards one where appropriate.
• Successful experience of teaching Computer Science at secondary, sixth form or equivalent level.
• The ability to teach Computer Science at GCSE and A Level.
• Strong subject knowledge, including programming, algorithms, computational thinking and computer systems.
• Competence in at least one major programming language used in school-level Computer Science, preferably Python.
• The ability to plan and deliver well-structured, engaging and challenging lessons.
• A strong understanding of assessment, feedback and examination preparation.
• High expectations of students’ academic progress, behaviour and independent study.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and the welfare of young people.
• A reflective approach to professional development.

Desirable

The ideal candidate may also have

• Experience teaching Pre-A Level, foundation, international or preparatory academic programmes.
• Experience teaching international students or students with English as an additional language.
• Experience with OCR, AQA, Pearson Edexcel, Cambridge International or similar Computer Science specifications.
• The ability to teach or support related areas such as ICT, digital literacy, robotics, AI, data science or mathematics.
• Experience supporting students applying for Computer Science or related degrees at university.
• Experience running coding clubs, competitions, enrichment projects or technology societies.
• Knowledge of object-oriented programming, databases, networking, cybersecurity, web development, data structures and algorithms.
• A willingness to contribute to innovation in digital learning and the wider academic life of the College.
