Are you ready to take the next step toward leadership this summer? Managing, developing, and supporting are just some of the duties of our Assistant Director of Studies. This is a fantastic chance to earn while working in a dynamic, multicultural environment, all while helping young learners improve their English.

At Stafford House Study Holidays, we welcome over 6,000 young learners (aged 8‑17) from around the world each summer. Our mission is to help students improve their English through engaging classroom lessons and a lively program of activities and excursions.

What does it involve?

  • Locations: Uxbridge West London, Cambridge, Oakham Leicestershire, New for 2026 - York.
  • Contracts: 5-8 weeks from 16th June to 23rd August 2026 depending on the school you work at. This can be a little flexible.
  • Hours: This is a fully immersive experience, offering 55 hours per week over 6 days. It's a residential role, meaning that you can choose to spend the summer in a new location, and we provide you with full‑board accommodation. You must attend our manager's training weekend on 19th June 2026.
  • Pay: £699.05 per week + holiday entitlement. Emergency Phone up to £40 per week (£20 per night payments for emergency phone cover anticipated 2x per week). Loyalty Payments (if applicable) – £23‑43 per week (paid at the end of your contract).

Support

Our class sizes are small; 15 students on average and our engaging syllabus is created to support a range of learners, with materials included. Many of our teaching staff return year on year, providing a wealth of experience but in addition, you are supported by a team of senior teachers, the Director of Studies, and our Academic & Training Manager.

Incentives

  • Free CPD remote training course in June 2026.
  • Incentive post‑summer: Suitably qualified teachers may apply for a free DELTA one‑module and access to selected additional teaching courses with Stafford House (T&Cs apply; ask us for more information).

Qualifications

  • Ideally have experience of working in a summer school previously.
  • Proven successful experience with at least 3 years full‑time EFL experience.
  • Assistant Directors of study should have a first degree or equivalent and must be EFL/TESOL qualified (e.g. CELTA, CertTESOL or another TEFL certificate which meets Accreditation UK criteria), PGCEs in English, Modern Foreign Languages or Primary will also be considered.
  • Educated to first degree level or equivalent (preferred).
  • Be a great communicator, with a level of spoken and written English equivalent to CEF level C1/CAE/IELTS 7.0.

Duties

  • Assisting the Director of Studies in managing the academic programme and the teaching team to ensure that students and teachers alike gain the most from their time with us.
  • Deputising responsibility for teaching resources and high‑quality delivery of lessons.
  • Ensuring academic lessons and activities are integrated to promote the best learning experience for our students. This includes organising rotas for teachers who are involved within the activities programme.
  • Supporting with weekly staff meetings and conducting weekly CPD sessions.
  • Guiding NQTs and experienced teachers, observing, appraising, and giving feedback on teaching performance, in a supportive, effective manner.
  • Participating in pastoral duties with our students, including night duties on a rota basis.
