OVERVIEW OF THE JOB
This role is a key part of the boarding team structure, with core responsibility for the management of the residential provision and a strong focus on supporting the health and wellbeing of our international boarding students. Working collaboratively with the Head of Boarding and Residential Life, the successful candidate will contribute to the ongoing development of the boarding provision.
As part of a vibrant, multicultural team, the role involves providing daily pastoral care, supporting students in their routines, and delivering a varied enrichment programme that enhances the residential experience.
The post is residential, with accommodation provided on-site, just across the road from one of our main school buildings and is within easy reach of Cambridge city centre. Living alongside colleagues and students allows for meaningful connection with the boarding community, and structured rotas and regular time off ensure a positive work-life balance
REPORTS TO
You will be directly responsible to the Head of Boarding and Residential Life. You will work within the framework set by and under the general direction of the Rector.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB
You will:
Work with the Head of Boarding and Residential Life to ensure the smooth running of the residence, maintaining a friendly, welcome, and happy environment.
Be determined to ensure the College’s students are provided with a positive, purposeful, safe, and fun residential environment that promotes their learning and development.
Work with the Head of Boarding and Residential Life to ensure the College complies with statutory duty of care obligations for under-18 students.
Lead and support the residential team alongside the Head of Boarding and Residential Life to ensure that duties are completed in line with the routines of the house such as wake-up calls, regular room checks and patrols, roll-calls, completing necessary paperwork accurately, giving instructions and guidance to the rest of your team.
Ensure a visible presence in the Boarding Houses when on duty, maintaining a safe and positive community in residence through active engagement with students and policy enforcement.
Sleep in accommodation provided by the college after an evening shift to ensure sufficient staffing coverage across the site, taking a work mobile in case the member of staff holding the emergency phone requires assistance.
Take the emergency phone when necessary and respond to call outs as required.
Act as Fire Marshall. Respond to and assist with emergencies such as fire alarms if in the building even when not formally on duty.
Oversee an allocated group of students in a pastoral capacity, holding regular meetings to share information, gather feedback, and foster a strong sense of community and belonging. Gather and provide student feedback to the Head of Boarding and Residential Life
Induct new residential staff to their duties and the residences.
Monitor the performance of residential team during shift, offering them support and guidance to conduct their duties in line with the expectations of the Head of Boarding and Residential Life.
Meet with the Head of Boarding and Residential Life on a regular basis to give regular feedback on the performance of residential staff.
Assist the Head of Boarding and Residential Life with managing the rota, including assisting with organising cover when required.
Provide administrative support for the Head of Boarding and Residential Life as requested.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Knowledge of National Minimum Standards (NMS), Independent Schools’ Statutory Regulations (ISI) and other relevant current child protection legislation.
Experience in and the ability to work with, care for and supervise young people.
Well-developed IT skills.
High standards set for themselves and others.
Background/experience in an area relevant to potential student activities.
Ability to stay calm and effective under pressure.
Positive, resilient, and solution-focused attitude to working life.
Experience managing a team.
High levels of energy, an even temper and a sense of humour.
