CATON CONSTRUCTION GROUP, one of The Caton Companies, is seeking a Bridge Form Carpenter to join our heavy civil construction project team in BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA (SOUTHPORT). Starting pay is based on skills and experience. This is a skilled craft position that constructs, erects, and repairs built-in place or prefabricated forms and structures, such as concrete footings, slabs, walls, columns, bridge decks, and bent caps. The role requires familiarity with machines used for bridge finishing, rebar tying, and other heavy civil construction duties.
Responsibilities:
- Erect built-in-place forms or assemble and install prefabricated forms according to blueprints.
- Inspect all work-in-progress to ensure it conforms to specifications and plans.
- Maintain, protect, secure, and efficiently use all resources assigned.
- Identify and report any extra work or changes in conditions to the project manager/engineer.
- Follow safety standards and promote safety on all job sites, using appropriate tools.
- Assist with survey and field layout, and support estimators and engineers during new work pursuits.
- Ensure quality control and safety policies are met, promoting safety, quality, and productivity.
Knowledge and Experience:
- Ability to read blueprints, prepare project layouts, estimate materials, and check work for compliance.
- Experience with pile driving, concrete forming, steel or concrete beam erection, shoring, cofferdams, drilled-shaft foundations, and bridge deck forming.
- Knowledge of bridge superstructure, substructure, cofferdams, work trestles, and related construction methods.
- Precision in work, ability to distinguish differences in size, shape, and form.
- Proficient in operating trade tools and equipment safely.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of hands-on experience as a bridge carpenter preferred.
- Strong understanding of drawings and project specifications.
- Knowledge of driving piles, erection, steel tying, concrete pouring, and erosion control setup.
- Familiarity with survey controls, grade checking, and bridge geometry.
- Ability to read civil construction plans.
- Basic computer skills and a valid driverβs license.
Position Details:
This is a full-time position with typical hours Monday through Friday, with some overnight travel possible.
