Wellington Country Park are seeking a Part Time Seasonal Train Driver.
Days of Work: Working up to 2/3 days a week on a rolling 3 week rota. This role may include working Bank Holidays, but will require working 1 weekend in every 3.
- Hours of Work: Working 9:15am to 4:15pm (5:15pm high season)

- Overview
The train is one of our most popular attractions in the park and as such it requires a driver who is energetic, enthusiastic, and outgoing.
You will be required to interact with visitors in an upbeat way and deliver service with a smile.
You also need to be someone who is relaxed and at ease with all types and ages of visitors, from very young children to older adults.
Organised and professional, you will also need to be safety conscious enough to operate such a serious piece of equipment and be relatively fit and self‑driven.
You will need to have the confidence to control large groups of people and queues.
Personality, flexibility and reliability is key and more important than experience, as full training will be given.
An interest in train and diesel engines would, however, be beneficial and add to your enjoyment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver unforgettable experiences to our visitors whilst driving the Train
- Welcoming guests onto the Train ensuring they embark/disembark safely and effectively providing any necessary instructions regarding safety
- Interacting with guests before and after they ride the Train, ensuring they get the most out of their ride
- Answer questions about the park, the route, or the Train itself in a friendly and informative manner
- Conduct pre‑operation inspections of the train and track to ensure everything is in proper working order, as outlined in the park’s policies, to include the opening and closing check list and blowing of the golf course
- Ensure the train, its compartments and platform/track are clean and presentable at all times
- Maintain a steady, safe speed and manage the train’s controls with attention to changes in the track or environment
- Perform basic maintenance tasks like oiling components and tightening connections
- Report any mechanical issues or damage to maintenance staff immediately
- Respond to and report any incidents or accidents promptly, following the park’s emergency protocols
- Collaborate with other park staff to ensure a smooth operation and a positive visitor experience
- Collaborate with the park’s event team to decorate the train for events
