As part of our UK and European BESS investment team, you will support the origination, evaluation and execution of energy storage investment opportunities, with a particular focus on standalone and co-located BESS projects. Working closely with colleagues across Development, EPC, Finance, Legal, Tax and Strategy functions in both Europe and China, you will play a key role in transaction execution, due diligence, financial analysis and preparation of investment recommendations.

This role offers exposure to a broad range of energy storage investments across the UK and Europe, supporting transactions from origination through to closing and portfolio transition. The successful candidate will gain experience across complex cross-border transactions, sophisticated financial analysis and direct interaction with senior stakeholders, developers, lenders and advisers.

Responsibilities
  • Deal Origination & Screening
    • Support the identification and screening of new BESS investment opportunities through developers, brokers, internal teams and direct market outreach.
    • Conduct market and regulatory research on the UK and European energy storage sector, including power markets, ancillary services, capacity market mechanisms and emerging policy developments.
    • Review project opportunities against the company’s investment strategy, target returns and risk parameters.
  • Financial Analysis & Valuation
    • Prepare initial investment summaries and recommendation materials for internal discussion.
    • Perform valuation analysis, including discounted cash flow, comparable transaction and sensitivity analysis.
    • Analyse project assumptions, revenue drivers, downside scenarios and investment risks.
    • Support preparation of internal approval papers, investment committee materials and management presentations.
  • Due Diligence & Transaction Execution
    • Coordinate and support the due diligence process across technical, legal, financial, tax, ESG, land, permitting and grid workstreams.
    • Manage data room setup, document organisation and information requests.
    • Coordinate with external advisers, including legal, technical, commercial and tax advisers.
    • Maintain due diligence trackers, issue logs, transaction timetables and risk registers.
  • Transaction Documentation & Negotiation Support
    • Support the negotiation of transaction documentation, including SPA, SHA and ancillary agreements, in close coordination with Legal and senior transaction team members.
    • Prepare mark-ups, track redlines, maintain key commercial issue lists and coordinate internal comments.
    • Support the review of key project agreements, including EPC, O&M, LTSA, land lease, grid connection and route-to-market agreements.
    • Coordinate internal approval and document execution processes.
  • Transaction Closing & Post-Completion
    • Maintain transaction timelines and critical path trackers across multiple live transactions.
    • Coordinate closing workstreams, including conditions precedent, completion deliverables and funds-flow requirements.
    • Support transaction closing activities and ensure all required documentation is completed in a timely manner.
    • Support post-completion handover and transition activities with internal stakeholders and counterparties.
    • Prepare regular transaction updates and risk reports for senior management.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination
    • Work closely with Development teams to ensure land, permitting and grid requirements are adequately documented.
    • Coordinate with EPC and technical teams to assess project readiness, commissioning status and construction-related risks.
    • Collaborate with Finance, Legal, Tax, ESG and Strategy teams throughout the transaction process.
    • Facilitate communication and coordination between UK / European and China-based teams.
Qualifications
  • 5–8 years in renewable energy M&A, project finance, transaction advisory, infrastructure investment or related field.
  • Experience supporting transactions involving renewable energy or infrastructure assets, ideally including BESS, solar or wind.
  • Experience participating in SPA and transaction documentation processes.
  • Familiarity with due diligence coordination and transaction execution across multiple workstreams.
  • Understanding of UK and European regulatory frameworks applicable to standalone and co-located BESS projects.
Required Skills
  • Strong financial modelling and valuation skills, with advanced Excel capability.
  • Solid understanding of project finance and cash flow-based valuation methodologies.
  • Familiarity with BESS revenue streams, including ancillary services, capacity market, merchant exposure, tolling structures and optimisation agreements.
  • Strong negotiation skills, especially on SPA and CP management.
  • Understanding of key project contracts, including EPC, O&M, land lease and grid connection agreements.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and project management skills.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in parallel.
  • High execution discipline and ability to run multiple transactions in parallel.
  • Excellent cross-functional coordination and stakeholder management.
Preferred Skills
  • Demonstrable experience in leading deal and asset management teams, with a strong commercial mindset.
  • Sound knowledge of the full investment life cycle, from origination and acquisition through to asset management and exit.
  • Breadth of knowledge across private equity, infrastructure and energy markets, particularly across mainland Europe.
  • Commercially focused, with demonstrable investment acumen and excellent relationship-building skills.
  • Innovative and analytical approach, with a strong alignment to corporate strategy.
Pay range and compensation package
  • Willingness to travel regularly between China and the UK / Europe.
