We’re seeking a technically strong, proactive Route Feasibility Engineer to help shape and deliver the infrastructure projects that power the UK’s future.

This hands‑on role leads the route development and feasibility process for electrical infrastructure, underground cable systems, substations and associated assets. You’ll identify viable route corridors, assess technical and environmental constraints, engage with stakeholders and help secure successful project delivery from concept through to approval.

  • Lead route feasibility studies for transmission and distribution infrastructure projects.
  • Identify and evaluate route corridors using GIS, mapping tools, engineering assessments and site investigations.
  • Assess technical constraints including terrain, ground conditions, existing utilities and constructability considerations.
  • Develop and compare route options against project objectives, risks and stakeholder requirements.
  • Support engagement with landowners, local authorities, utility providers and regulatory bodies.
  • Coordinate with environmental, planning and engineering specialists throughout project development.
  • Identify project risks and develop practical mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare route selection reports, presentations and recommendations for clients and stakeholders.
  • Support business development activities, bids and proposals.
  • Successful identification and development of viable route options.
  • Delivery of projects within agreed budgets and programmes.
  • Reduction of route‑related project risks.
  • Positive stakeholder and landowner engagement outcomes.
  • Support of successful planning and consenting applications.
  • Continuous improvement of route planning and feasibility processes.
  • Proven experience in route development, feasibility studies or infrastructure planning.
  • Strong understanding of power, utilities or major infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of transmission and distribution networks and associated infrastructure.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multidisciplinary projects and external consultants.
  • Strong commercial awareness and problem‑solving capability.
  • Experience working with substations and underground cable infrastructure is highly desirable.
  • Experience working on renewable energy or grid connection projects.
  • Knowledge of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) processes.
  • Understanding of UK energy infrastructure consenting and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience with GIS and spatial data interpretation.
  • SMSTS and knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015.
