Part-time position. The role supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school, serving as a witness to Gospel values and adhering to school and Diocese policies. The employee is connected to school leaders in performance of ministry within the Church.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, initiate, and administer the athletic program in a particular sport to prepare student-athletes for interscholastic competition.
  • Be recommended to the principal by the athletic director, hired by the principal, and evaluated in consultation with the athletic director.
  • Conduct practice sessions and games according to local diocesan policy and league regulations.
  • Schedule practices and games in consultation with the athletic director.
  • Verify student eligibility to practice and participate (physicals, release/hold harmless, and registration).
  • Monitor participants’ physical condition, report injuries to parents and school officials, and supervise all activities during practices and games.
  • Teach essential safety skills and strategies, monitor safety compliance, and follow school and diocesan policies regarding academic eligibility, safety guidelines, and transportation rules.
  • Distribute and collect athletic equipment and uniforms; communicate with the athletic director about field and gym use and any early dismissals.
  • Maintain emergency contact information at practices and games; demonstrate professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits.
  • Maintain a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students, and staff; instruct athletes on proper strategy, skills, and rules; motivate student athletes to perform at their best.
  • Use approved discipline procedures and collaborate with school personnel to support the academic program.
  • Confer with parents upon request and respond to messages in a timely manner.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Knowledge of adolescent physical development, sport skills, and regulations.
  • Expertise and competency in fundamentals of the sport; ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
  • Ability to work well with others in the school community; skill in handling multiple tasks; skill in motivating student athletes.
  • Skill in organizing information in an understandable format; skill in job-appropriate technology; skill in critical thinking and planning.

Requirements

  • Education: High school or equivalent.
  • Experience: Previous coaching and/or playing experience.
  • Certifications And Training: Current CPR certification and first aid training; valid Texas Driver\’s License.
  • Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.

Working Conditions

  • Required to work some nights and weekends.
  • Required to manage high to moderate levels of stress.
  • Required to work in standard gym, field, and school conditions.
