The Role

To provide support to the estates department, taking a professional and proactive approach to general maintenance, and on‑going improvements of the site, treating Health and Safety as a priority in all aspects of the role. The main duties and responsibilities of this role include:

  • Routine basic maintenance of the college grounds, including the Multi Use Games Area (MUGA), cleaning and litter picking.
  • To operate and carry out basic maintenance to grounds maintenance machinery and equipment in line with Health & Safety regulations.
  • Assist with event set ups, including exam set up and take down, Open Days, Taster Days and Consultation Days.
  • General upkeep of all site soft landscaping, including but not limited to weeding, mowing, trimming, hedge trimming etc.

The Successful Candidate

Cardinal Newman College is a wonderful place to work, and this is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced candidate to join our friendly and well‑established Estates department. The Estates department is looking for someone who can undertake manual tasks such as maintenance repairs/DIY, holds a First Aid Certificate or is willing to work towards one, and can work without direct supervision in a quick and efficient manner. You should display the values, attitudes, and behaviours consistent with the Catholic Ethos of the College and have a commitment to equality/diversity and the safeguarding of young people and vulnerable adults.

Terms and Conditions

Hours: 37 hours per week, full year (for the right candidate we would consider term time plus 2 or 4 weeks), 8am to 4pm with flexibility to work 10am to 6pm on occasion.

Salary: The post will be paid on the Sixth Form Colleges’ Support Staff Pay Spine at points 11 to 13 – £28,634 to £30,444 per annum.
