St Peter’s is an extremely successful school and Sixth Form in Guildford. We have an exciting opportunity to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic Cover Supervisor to join our team, starting in September 2026.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Supervise whole classes during short-term absence of teachers. The class work is set by the absent teacher or by the department on their behalf.
  • Manage the classroom environment, maintain good behaviour and keep pupils on task.
  • Respond to questions and assist pupils to undertake set activities.
  • The Cover Supervisor is not expected to plan, mark work, or set targets or homework.
  • Secondarily, supervise Sixth Form study periods conducted in silence on a rota basis.

About You

  • Adaptable and positive approach, able to work with all age groups from Year 7 to Sixth Form, across all subjects.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Educated at least to A Level standard with GCSE English and Maths at grade C or equivalent.
  • Either looking to move on to a career in teaching or committed to the role of Cover Supervisor.

Hours, Pay and Terms

The hours are 8.30am – 3.10pm daily except on Tuesdays when you finish at 2.45pm, 39 weeks per year with unpaid morning and lunch breaks. There is also the opportunity for paid duties during lunchtime and after school. Surrey Pay Scale PS6 – £30,647 to £32,867 FTE. Four days per week (22.4 hours), 39 weeks = £16,405 to £17,593 actual pay. Five days per week (28 hours), 39 weeks = £20,506 to £21,991 actual pay.
