At St George’s Catholic School, we require a Design & Technology and Food Technology Teacher to join our department on a maternity cover basis.
The successful candidate will teach Key Stage 3 Design & Technology and Key Stage 4 Hospitality and Catering, delivering engaging, practical and creative lessons. The role will involve supporting students to develop their creativity, practical skills, problem-solving abilities and confidence through a range of design and food-based projects.
Responsibilities include:
- Teaching & Learning: Planning and delivering engaging KS3 Design & Technology and KS4 Hospitality and Catering lessons that meet the needs of all students.
- KS3 Design & Technology: Teaching a broad range of practical and design-based projects, developing students’ knowledge and skills across different materials, processes and technologies.
- KS4 Hospitality and Catering: Delivering the Hospitality and Catering qualification, developing students’ practical food preparation skills alongside their knowledge and understanding of nutrition, ingredients, food safety and the hospitality and catering industry.
- Practical Lessons: Preparing and delivering practical activities, demonstrations and projects while ensuring students develop safe working practices.
- Design Process: Encouraging students to research, design, make and evaluate their work, developing creativity and problem-solving skills.
- Assessment: Assessing students’ work, providing constructive feedback and monitoring progress.
- Health & Safety: Ensuring high standards of health and safety in the workshops and Food Technology room, including the safe use of tools, machinery, equipment and ingredients.
- Classroom Management: Creating a positive, inclusive and well-managed learning environment.
- Curriculum Support: Following departmental schemes of work and contributing to the development of resources and practical activities.
Qualifications / Experience required:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Experience of teaching Design & Technology and/or Food Technology at secondary school level.
- Experience of teaching practical Design & Technology at KS3.
- Experience of teaching Hospitality and Catering at KS4 would be desirable.
- Good knowledge of practical workshop and Food Technology health and safety.
- Ability to plan and deliver engaging practical and theory-based lessons.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a department.
- A commitment to creativity, practical learning and developing students’ confidence and independence.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Enhanced DBS check required.
