We are seeking to appoint an experienced and proactive Management Accountant to play a key role in strengthening the School’s financial reporting and processes. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled finance professional to design and implement a robust monthly management accounting framework within a growing and evolving educational environment.
Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Management Accountant will take ownership of developing and embedding a comprehensive monthly management accounts process from the ground up. The successful candidate will transition the School to a structured monthly reporting model, providing enhanced financial insight and supporting informed decision‑making at senior leadership level.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing timely and accurate monthly management accounts including profit and loss statements, balance sheets and cash flow reporting with clear variance analysis and commentary on financial performance and trends.
- Producing and analysing budgets, forecasts, and longer-term financial planning, providing clear explanations and actionable insights.
- Providing financial insight to support educational and operational initiatives, including capital and estates-related projects.
- Business partnering with budget holders across academic and support departments to monitor performance, control costs and improve efficiency.
- Supporting year-end processes, audit preparation, and strong financial governance.
- Contributing to continuous improvement in finance systems, controls, and reporting, ensuring data integrity and consistency.
- Supporting the evaluation of new initiatives, capital projects, and business cases, including sensitivity and risk analysis.
- Supporting risk management activities by identifying financial risks and proposing appropriate mitigating actions.
- Ensuring compliance with accounting standards, company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across the Finance Department, including the Financial Accountant and Assistant Accountants.
- Providing cover and support across all finance functions when required, particularly during peak periods.
The successful candidate will be expected to hold a full, professional qualification (ACCA, CIMA, etc) or equivalent professional experience as a Management Accountant. They should have proven experience and a strong understanding of management accounting principles within a complex organisation, experience producing monthly management accounts, budgets and forecasts with a strong track record of clear financial analysis and variance reporting, strong analytical skills with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues, excellent Excel skills and experience of financial systems, detail orientation with high levels of accuracy, integrity, and organisation, strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail with the ability to challenge assumptions constructively and add value beyond the numbers, adaptability and openness to change with a continuous improvement mindset, and be a strong team player who is proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
