Cathie is a global offshore geoscience and geotechnical engineering consultancy, specialising in marine geophysics, geotechnics, ground modelling, foundation engineering, cables and pipelines, trenching, and numerical analyses. Our work powers the design, installation, and operation of offshore, nearshore, and onshore infrastructure—primarily in the offshore renewable energy sector, with additional work in oil and gas. We have a strong pipeline of projects supporting the development of offshore wind farms in the North Sea, Baltic Sea, Mediterranean, US, and Asia, and we anticipate continued growth as the energy transition accelerates.

We’re looking for an experienced GIS Specialist to join our Newcastle team and play a key role in the delivery of offshore energy projects worldwide. You will lead and support GIS tasks across diverse project scopes—from ground characterisation and cable routing to ground modelling, foundation design, and Online GIS solutions. You'll work alongside engineering and geoscience teams—including geotechnical engineers, engineering geologists, and geophysicists—to deliver high-quality geospatial outputs and support innovative consultancy services. Expect to collaborate, think outside the box, and help drive forward solutions in frontier areas such as floating wind, anchoring, and large deformation analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide GIS support across a range of geotechnical and geophysical offshore energy projects
  • Deliver spatial analysis, high-quality maps, and geospatial deliverables
  • Development and manage online GIS platforms for stakeholder collaboration
  • Contribute to ground investigation campaigns, ground modelling, cable routing, and foundation design tasks
  • Manage and quality-assure spatial data, ensuring consistency and compliance with data standards
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, supporting both standalone and integrated project scopes
  • Contribute to R&D, technical innovation, and Cathie’s thought leadership, including participation in international conferences and technical papers

You will have:

  • A degree in GIS, Geomatics, Geoscience, Civil Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years’ experience working in GIS roles in the offshore energy, infrastructure or marine sector
  • Proven ability to deliver GIS outputs in a consultancy or project environment
  • Advanced GIS software skills (ArcGIS, QGIS, FME), and experience with Online GIS platforms
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management, and communication skills
  • The ability to work independently, manage tasks, and mentor junior staff
  • Confidence to represent Cathie in client-facing activities, workshops, and presentations

Bonus points for:

  • Experience handling geotechnical/geophysical data and AGS formats
  • Offshore site investigation or client rep experience, including current offshore certs
  • Proficiency in tools such as Plaxis, FLAC3D, Abaqus, or Python
  • Familiarity with Power BI, Tableau, and interactive data visualisation
  • Passion for the renewable energy sector and a desire to drive the industry forward

  • A friendly, diverse team with shared values and a dynamic work culture
  • Continuous learning through CPD, mentorship, and exposure to R&D initiatives
