About the firm
Our client is a well-established and respected regional law firm, providing high-quality legal advice to individuals, families, and businesses across the South West. With a full range of legal services delivered with professionalism and a personal touch, this firm values lasting client relationships and clear communication above all else.
The firm is deeply embedded in the communities it serves, actively supporting numerous charitable and sporting organisations throughout Devon and Somerset. This community focus is matched by a strong internal culture—collegiate, inclusive, and invested in career development—with clear progression opportunities for ambitious legal professionals.
About the role
The Litigation Department is a busy and motivated team of nine experienced fee earners and support staff who manage a broad spectrum of good quality civil litigation matters. Working directly with the Head of Litigation, you will be working with some or full independence (depending upon your level of experience) managing a caseload of MOJ Portal, higher value Fast Track and Intermediate Track claims.
You’ll also gain increasing exposure to complex claims involving life-altering injuries, assisting the Partner on Multi-Track cases. The work flows in as a result of referrals and effective marketing strategies, and as such, your caseload will be good quality, interesting and varied.
You’ll be given scope and encouragement to develop or extend your profile in the region, and be actively involved in business generation and networking activities.
About you
As an experienced Personal Injury and/or Clinical Negligence fee earner, you will be accustomed to handling a busy and varied caseload of higher value Fast Track and Intermediate Track claims work. Our client recognises the importance of experience over qualifications, and you could be qualified by experience with several years’ fee earning as a Personal Injury Paralegal. Alternatively, you might be fully qualified (or be about to) via the SRA or CILEX routes. The supervising partner is keen to provide the right kind of support where needed on complex matters, with the expectation that you will work relatively independently on straightforward Fast Track and Intermediate Track matters.
The firm is positive about professional and career development, working with their people to open up learning and development pathways which are tailored to individuals.
You’ll already possess strong client liaison skills, being able to work effectively and with empathy with clients facing difficult situations. It is equally important to the Litigation team that you actively support one another with good communication and collaboration at all levels.
Given the nature of the client work, a driving license and access to a car will be important. This reflects the firm’s approach to providing a personalised, client-centred service with in-person meetings being part of their offer, which differentiates them from many other competitors. Colleagues are encouraged to travel to other offices when needed and to enhance integration within teams.
You’ll have:
- Strong case-handling ability across Fast Track and Intermediate Track claims
- Experience assisting on higher-value Multi-Track cases
- Confidence in business development, networking, and client engagement
- A proactive mindset toward generating new work streams
Working Arrangements
- Full-time and part-time applications welcomed (minimum 24 hours per week across 3.5 or 4 short days)
- Office-based presence is essential, either in Exeter or Tiverton, for most of the week
- Hybrid working may be available after successful completion of the probation period
Benefits
In return for your hard work and commitment, our client offers:
- A supportive and friendly working environment with a strong emphasis on wellbeing and professional development.
- A competitive salary package commensurate with your experience and skills
- A comprehensive range of benefits including flexible working, health and wellbeing initiatives, and ongoing training opportunities
- The chance to join a firm that genuinely values its people and provides opportunities for career progression and long-term growth.
