£40-£45k DOE | Onsite | Barnstaple

An established organisation in Barnstaple is seeking a dynamic HR Manager to lead its People function. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the business continues to attract, retain, and develop a talented workforce, enabling the delivery of an exceptional experience to all stakeholders.

The Role:

This is a pivotal leadership role overseeing the People team and operations. The HR Manager will act as the first point of contact for all People-related matters, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice, while driving forward initiatives that support organisational development, staff wellbeing, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities for the HR Manager include:

  • Lead the delivery of day-to-day People operations, providing expert advice and ensuring compliance with legislation and sector requirements.
  • Manage employee relations casework, including performance, absence, grievance, and disciplinary matters, ensuring best practice approaches.
  • Line manage and develop the HR team, empowering staff and ensuring a high-quality and efficient People service.
  • Oversee recruitment, pay, benefits, and systems, driving improvements in processes, staff experience, and organisational engagement.

Requirements for the HR Manager:

  • Proven management experience with strong leadership, coaching, and influencing skills.
  • CIPD membership, with a degree-level qualification (or equivalent), plus evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Strong background in managing employee relations, policies, and HR processes, ideally with project management or education sector experience.
  • Excellent communication, resilience, and problem-solving skills, with a commitment to safeguarding, equality, and inclusion.
