Cathay Group is launching a strategic, high-priority expansion project, and we are looking for a highly driven Project Engineer to lead it. This is a fixed-term contract opportunity for the duration of the project (estimated to be 12-18 months) and is based in Croydon to ensure close coordination and direct reporting to the Group Managing Director.
You will manage the entire relocation and commissioning of specialized slitting machinery from our Dutch facility, Lantor, to our new manufacturing operation in Swansea.
The Mission: Project Ownership & Execution
This mission requires strong technical expertise, determination, and cross-cultural leadership skills. You will be the central coordinator and technical lead, responsible for:
- Become the Expert: Spend an initial 3 months in the Netherlands with our expert team to master the machinery, documentation, and production processes.
- Central Coordination (Croydon): Based in Croydon, you will coordinate logistics, manage budgets, track timelines, and report directly on project status to the Group MD.
- Relocation & Commissioning (Swansea): Lead the physical and technical setup of the new production line in Swansea, ensuring successful installation and seamless commissioning.
- Operational Handover: Recruit, train, and manage the initial team of 8 production staff in Swansea, establishing the 24/7 operation before handing over to the permanent Production Manager.
Candidate Profile
You are a great fit for this high-impact, hands-on role if you have:
- A degree in an Engineering discipline (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering).
- A proven track record of leading complex projects, particularly involving machinery relocation or new line commissioning.
- Experience in the nonwoven industry is highly preferred.
- Strong communication and cross-cultural leadership skills with the grit to overcome challenges and drive the project to success.
- The ability and flexibility to travel frequently between Croydon, the Netherlands, and Swansea.
Contract: Fixed-Term (Estimated 12-18 Months)
Location: Croydon (Head Office Base) with required travel to the Netherlands and Swansea.
