Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will be the expert responsible for the full life‑cycle of production tooling—from manufacture and maintenance to continuous improvement. This is a hands‑on role requiring a bias for action and a constant focus on health and safety.
Responsibilities
- Manufacture and precisely fit production tooling to tight tolerances.
- Repair, maintain and improve tools.
- Perform machine tool changes during production.
- Use and perform daily maintenance on all tool‑room equipment, including surface grinders and hydraulic presses.
- Provide expertise for troubleshooting and assistance on other technical issues.
- Identify and implement areas for continuous improvement, focusing on cost and velocity.
- Manage specific projects and effectively record planned tooling activities.
- Ensure all deliverables meet quality and compliance standards.
- Maintain detailed records of service/repair work, tooling failure logs, and shift handovers.
- Perform general site maintenance as required, including working at heights using safety equipment and PPE.
Required Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field, or qualified by experience.
Experience & Skills
- Proven experience in tool making, including the use of relevant hand tools and machinery.
- Strong understanding of machining processes and principles.
- Ability to accurately read engineering drawings.
- Proficiency in using measuring equipment like verniers and micrometers.
- Experience using lifting equipment and CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
