The opportunity: Caterpillar has an exciting opportunity for a Test Technician Specialist who want to be challenged and are interested in progressing with the company. In this skilled role, you will perform work on a broad range of standard and specialized products. You will provide technical expertise, perform complex electrical/mechanical work and will work with and provide direction to other Test Technicians/Apprentices in the team.
This role allows you to develop your communication and interpersonal skills as well as demonstrate your decision-making ability. You will interact with hourly and salaried employees at the Larne facility and will receive guidance from your Team Leader. Many opportunities exist for those Test Technician Specialists who are keen to progress in the production environment and especially into leadership positions.
What you will do:
- Work with limited management to prepare and test standard generator sets and specialised product to determine malfunctions and make repairs as required.
- Perform special tests on generator sets to prove engineering design theory, load and cooling performance, endurance and vibration tests, etc.
- Perform non-routine tests on generator sets and genset control system panels for specific customer requirements when only general information is available.
- Interpret complex prints and electrical drawings to perform tests.
- Document and analyse results of tests and provide appropriate feedback.
- Set up and simulate tests for genset control system panels with the aid of the component documentation.
- Update computer records on machine/progress faults.
- Compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Compliance with 5S programme and other business improvement initiatives.
- Display behaviour and conduct fitting with our Values in Action.
- Train other employees if and when required.
- Any other appropriate duties.
What you have:
- Formal apprenticeship or National Vocational Qualification equivalent in electrical discipline.
- Previous experience in testing or fault finding on mechanical and electrical equipment.
- The ability to follow and comprehend verbal, specific and detailed procedures and work instructions as well as difficult arithmetic calculations.
- The ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematic drawings.
- High voltage certification.
- Ability to work from heights and in confined spaces.
- Physical ability to fulfil the requirements of the job.
- Good communication skills as the job will entail interacting with internal and external customers.
Desired Qualifications:
- Comprehensive knowledge of generator sets and control panels to set up tests with limited data available.
- The ability to use a variety of power tools, hand tools and complex testing equipment.
- Previous experience working in a lean environment.
- Attention to detail to meet quality standards.
- Strong customer focus.
- Ability to prioritize and organize sequence of work.
- Reasonable level of computer literacy.
This position is currently an in-office work model, requiring a 4-day weekly office presence onsite at our Larne site.
