The Division
The Integrated Components and Solutions team in the UK, has some of the most exciting engineering opportunities within the Caterpillar global organisation, working on the integration of electronic control systems within multiple Caterpillar products. Integration of the latest Electronics and Electrical technology helps differentiate Caterpillar products from its competitors, by enabling exceptional performance and value to the customer.
Our engine systems control air and fuel delivery with millisecond precision, power delivery and response, and manage aftertreatment systems (including regeneration), to maximise performance and minimise exhaust emissions.
Our battery management systems manage and control the performance of machine battery packs, providing state-of-the-art SoC, SoH and SoF algorithms, delivering necessary functional safety features and managing charge and discharge, as well as integrating to other system components such as powertrain controllers, chargers and machines controls.
Our integrated machine systems control all aspects of construction machine operation (engine/transmission or full electric powertrain, hydraulic systems), provide the human-machine interface (operator controls and information displays), and constantly monitor and communicate position, operation, diagnostic and prognostic information to enable machine automation, improved productivity and enhanced serviceability.
Job Role and Responsibilities
You will be part of a team responsible for developing Electro Mechanical Control Systems using quantitative methods to solve problems for internal and external Caterpillar customers. We are recruiting for a number of different job roles and, depending on the role you are considered for, responsibilities may include:
Collecting customer requirements and developing technical specifications for electronic features.
Developing electrical system architectures and solutions to meet technical requirements.
Defining control algorithms and developing software to implement these using model-based development techniques.
Verification planning and testing of electronic features utilising simulation, SIL, HIL test benches and/or machine.
Troubleshooting and resolving electronics / control system issues encountered during build and test of products.
Investigating control system performance issues, identifying root cause, innovating, implementing and testing solutions and product improvements.
Contribution to FMEA, functional safety and product compliance reviews
Basic Qualifications
Strong technical background (good technical degree preferred in mechanical, electronic, electrical, control systems or automotive engineering) though other qualifications / experience will be considered.
Top candidates may also have experience with (depending on the specific position):
Off-highway machine/engine/EV control system development (or comparable automotive, marine or military vehicle control systems)
