About IPSD: Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Caterpillar’s company strategy includes sustainability as one of four focus areas and IPSD is engaged and actively preparing green energy solutions for the future.
Job Summary: The Component Engineering team is part of the wider engineering team at IPSD-M (Industrial Power Systems Division – Medium Engines). The Component Engineering team is responsible for the design and mechanical development of all engine components. The Air and Fuel team is responsible for developing components internally and working directly with key component and system suppliers to seamlessly integrate outsourced components onto IPSD products. This includes maintaining existing product lines, development of future products (NPI) and the investigation into new and cutting-edge technologies (NTI). We are seeking a highly motivated and self-starting Senior Development Engineer to join the Air and Fuel systems team to develop engine / powertrain components and support integration into Caterpillar products.

What You Will Do:
- Lead development and testing of Air and Fuel System components on both diesel and alternative fuel products.
- Develop, validate, and implement new components, products and technologies.
- Creation of functional requirement documents to support collaboration with key component and system suppliers.
- Creation of test plans for working prototypes in a variety of powertrain products using tools such as FMEA and DVP.
- Support design engineers with ideas and design evolution to improve reliability and durability.
- Collaboration with the team to share, learn and develop yours and the team’s knowledge.
What You Have:
Required qualifications:- Accredited Bachelors/Masters degree in a relevant Engineering subject or equivalent experience.
- Working knowledge engines and associated ancillary systems.
- Development experience: High level of powertrain development proficiency; prior experience working with diesel engines, fuels system components and/or air system components.
- Prior experience creating and maintaining FMEA and the creation of DVP.
- The ability to manage and manipulate complex data and draw conclusions and summaries.
- Experience of using PLM systems (Teamcenter).
- Regularly supporting peer reviews working with others to share learning and develop robust solutions.
- Use of research techniques to identify solutions to problems autonomously.
- Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviours.
- Level Working Knowledge: Effectively communicate ideas to others and interpret others’ ideas. Write, present and peer review engineering reports. Adapts documents and presentations for the intended audience.
- Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
- Level Working Knowledge: Approaches a situation or problem by defining the problem or issue and determining its significance. Identifies many possible causes for a problem based on prior experience and current research. Makes a systematic comparison of two or more alternative solutions based on available data and experience.
- Explore new simulation techniques to enable future automation and efficiency gains in simulation workflow.
- Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
- Level Working Knowledge: Ability to design and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production. Provides effective technical solutions to routine functional challenges via sound technical competence. Provides effective solutions to moderate technical challenges through strong technical competence, effectively examining implications of events and issues. Trains others on advanced tools and approaches of product design. Design led simulation including bolted joints and structural simulation.
