Salary: £95,491 + Dependent upon experience

The Opportunity
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Patent Attorney to become an integral part of Caterpillar’s European IP office to support and drive the IP function. This role will consist of working with engineers up through senior management at the various UK and European facilities to develop and implement IP strategies and be responsible for:
- Patent portfolio management, including invention harvesting and working with external counsel to have patent applications drafted and prosecuted
- IP risk management, including management of conflict matters and post-grant procedures, such as EPO opposition proceedings
- IP agreements counselling and support
- Patent enforcement
- General IP counselling
This work will include broad international exposure to IP matters pertaining to the European region and further afield and provide the opportunity to work closely with colleagues spread over the globe. The role will require a highly motivated individual that is looking for autonomy and flexibility, but also looking to be in the office to lead, mentor and engage an enthusiastic team and clients. Candidates must have a relevant background (such as mechanical/electrical/physics) and be a qualified patent attorney, preferably in the UK and at the EPO. Whether your experience has been in-house or in private practice, you must demonstrate strong commercial judgement, excellent communication skills, and must also be prepared to undertake occasional business travel.
Please note all applicants must be eligible to work in the UK and be available to be present daily in the Peterborough, UK office.
